Ruslan was a paper champion more than anything...

    Stop acting like Algeri can hang with the best in the division. This was one win against a guy who was VERY OVERRATED. And it was a close win at that.

    You do realize Ruslan became a champion by beating Alvarado, who for his title beat the great... Brandon Rios??? umm... Well that's ok Rios beat the Marvelous.... woah woah woah.... Wait a minute?

    Rios and Alvarado only recieved high rankings because they were so exciting to watch all the sanctioning bodies were willing to rate them higher so they could become stars. HBO was in desperate need of new product at 140 with showtime having most the good fighters from that weight class on their network. So they manufacture these stars, and sure they aren't BAD. But they aren't world champion material either... Rios vs Alvarado should have never been a world title fight. It only became one because Marquez VACATED the title and failed to defend it:

    Look at the lineage of that title. Bradley has it, vacates. Marquez wins it, vacates. Then Rios and Alvarado fight each other for it. Most likely because UNCLE BOB BRIBED THE COMMISION TO HAVE THE TITLE FOUGHT FOR BY HIS 2 MANUFACTURED STARS. It isn't unrealistic. Uncle Bob has testified talking about some of his activities in the past:

    The above article cites Uncle Bob has paid off organizing bodies before. It would not be surprising if he did it again. Oh he did:

    This guy will pay off people to get his fighters the fights they want. Wouldn't it not be a big jump in conclusions to say that he would pay a sanctioning organization to let his guys (Rios and ALvarado) fight for a title?


    Rios and Alvarado are entertaining, they are warriors, they have big hearts. They possess skills and talent. But let's face it. They never should have been fighting for that title. Neither of them was probably top 10 in that division at the time of the fight. The only reason they were ranked that high was because of boxing politics. So Ruslan won a title because of boxing politics. He also had someone willing to fight his style of fight, I think MANY other boxers would give him the same fight as Algeri. Stop regarding ALgeri as someone who can hang with the top guys.

    I also want to add I was happy to see Algeri win, but I think as a boxing community we need to acknowledge how good ruslan really was and not rate this guy too highly yet.

    Ruslan gave Bradley hell, took out Alvarado, those performances put him on the map, I don't know if Algieri won or not, but CA definitely deserves another big fight immediately after that performance.

    You are underrating ruslan he clobbered Bradley and beat Alvarado, lost to Herrera a fight many thought he won, and Herrera humiliated the so called 140 king in Garcia

    As opposed to Matthyse the "real" champion who got knocked down by John Molina 2 times, lost to Zab Judah, and then schooled by Garcia...

    Lol.....If Ruslan was a paper champion than Matthyse was nothing at all..

    Not to mention, Marquez while a superb hall of fame level fighter did just lose soundly to Bradley 2 fights ago.....

    Ruslan, Lucas, Danny, Herrera, are all legit, all talented, but in boxing someone has to win and someone has to lose, and that doesn't mean automatically the loser is ****.

    Ruslan is very good but not great but Algieri was a bad style matchup, simple as that. Everybody has a style that they don't do well against Danny was Lucas' and Herrera was Danny's.

    If anything, at the time, he was the only belt-holder holding any merit. Garcia had lost, clearly to Herrera who many think Provodnikov should have a win over.

    What do you mean bad style match-up? More than half of the media saw him winning that fight. Discount what he said because he was obviously very emotional.

    He makes Bradley look like ****, who was hovering around the p4p list at the time. He has a close fight with Herrera, whom many thought he won, who goes on to dethrone the lineal champion. Now, he has a close fight with Algieri, who many in the media thought he beat.

    hit the nail on the head. watching the fight live i had prov winning but even said out loud that algieri is showing exactly how to beat ruslan and that it was a terrible style matchup for him, i just didn't think they would give the decision to algieri, oh well stranger things have happened. algieri will not have the belt for long, his style is boring in my opinion but he does pose a stylistic nightmare for a lot of fighters ala herrera, molina, malinaggi etc etc

    Provodnikov is an exciting fighter, almost ended Bradley's career and beat Alvarado. He comes to fight, no run.

    There was a rematch clause in Provodnikov's contract. Roach they will force a rematch in neutral territory with neutral judges, ref., etc..............

    Provo is a great fighter but very limited offensively IMO


    Matthysse for example is levels ahead offensively than Ruslan and that's what you need to be against guys like algieri

    It depends on what you were looking for I thought Algieri almost swept the whole fight after round 2, he inflicts damage early on therefore influences peoples opinion, knocked down Bradley, messed up Algieri and Herrera's eye, blinding people to the fact he is easily being outboxed.

    Your so caught up in the damage he has inflicted, that you fully expect to see a KO soon, messing up your perception of the fight.

    He lost 8 rounds by a wide margin to Tim.
    Herrera took 7 or 8 close rounds.
    Algieri may have taken 8 to 11 rounds.

    People forget you score round by round not on who's more fu cked up looking.

    I think Ruslan is awesome just against Alvarado's and Rios' of the world.

    Any tough chinned, hard punching cab driver would've gave Bradley a tough fight that night. Tim threw all skill out the window and stood right in front of Ruslan and made it easy for him and he still lost.
