I really hope he doesn't fight Roy Jones Jr next, I think to really shut up some of the American fans he needs to fight and beat one of their rising stars not another fighter they can say was in decline and too old. He basically needs to destroy another young prospect a la Lacy, alot of people think these fighters are the future (like they did with Lacy).
I'm sure after he beat Pavlik or Dawson though, they would just become more 'hype-jobs'. Calzaghe can't win.

If grandpa hopkins puts him on the canvas, pavlik puts him in the morgue.

i agree I would prefer these fights to RJJ, but going form the interview i would say he is going after the money.

Pavlik is made for Joe Calzaghe.

Not Dawson, not after how he looked last week. either fighter in the ring yesterday would have battered him.

And I will strangle the next person whos RJJ should fight him. WHy? Because he looked good against a retired light middleweight?

Pavlik or the winner of Abraham-Miranda would seem logical.

I agree that it would be somewhat of a farce, but on the other hand, Calzaghe's been on the grind struggling to get recognition for a very long time. If he goes for the money now, i find it hard to hold it against him.
His fans trying to pass the guy of as a god is a different matter though.

Pavlik will get destroyed, I am certain of it. Dawson would be a tougher propostition.

Hopkins flooring Joe doesn't mean a thing should he fight Pavlik. Lacy was a far bigger puncher than Hopkins and didn't touch him for 12 rounds; power means nothing if you can't land it, and there's no way Pavlik would've been able to throw the shot that dropped him last night.

Pavlik's decent, but he struggled when Taylor moved his head and showed him a few angles. Of course, Taylor's too lazy to keep up that work for 12 rounds. Calzaghe on the other hand would bring extra awkwardness and speed coupled with a better chin and much higher workrate. Barring a few good shots that might nick the odd round or possibly drop Joe, I can't see anything other than a wide decision. The Pavlik fight's not too risky from what I can see, but represents the best reward in terms of legacy. I very much doubt it'll ever happen, unfortuantely.
