Is Canelo Alverez worshipped in mexico on the same level as Chavez SR?

No...Actually any common comment i hear about him is that he is overrated..but even though Our country is a big boxing country..90 percent of people i know..just know boxing very superficially..and think boxing is people just slugging it out..so people here say o he is overrated..televisa manages him...they buy fights for him....he sucks he couldnt eve beat up mayeweathe...so yes mostly stupid comments in my opinion..i dont think he is the greatest or hold him in the same regards of Chavez jr..but i think he is technically good...i undertand the challenge of fighting Mayweather..the challenge in Trout..Lara..so i respect him..i respect him more than Chavez Jr..

 

There was an article somewhere about him where, the Mexicans consider him a star but Boxing wise don't rate him as high as someone like Marquez.

 

a lot of people from mexico that i know say he is a hype job created by the media, i think if he can get a few more quality wins he will win them over. they will believe it when they see it but that mayweather schooling didn't help.

No, everyone lost interest when he put on that pathetic showing against Mayweather. I've been to Matamoros, Juarez, Tampico, and Nuevo Laredo and a lot of people I've talked to say he's a disgrace.
