What has that got to do with anything? Billy has already proven that he was a good match for Ricky.

Show me a fighter that Tony has trained whereby he has corrected the flaws that Ricky has? I can't name one guy who he has trained that is defensively sound at world level.

 

Did you see his last three fights with Billy as the trainer?

 

Yeah, but that doesn't mean moving to Sims was a good decision. His performances at the end of time with Billy were subpar, but that doesn't discount all the good work Billy has done with him since they hooked up. A change was definitely needed, but Sims should never have been that change. If Burn's had any ambition to get back to the top then he needed to go to America.

 

If he wanted a change should have asked Peter Harrison, who is a much better trainer, and had much more success than Tony Sims. Knows his tactics, and the game inside out.

 

Burns is shot, he was looking past it for few fights but since the broken jaw he's looked shot

 

I think that many people here are forgetting that Ricky in relation to his talent and early career has been a massive overachiever,so well done to him and Billy.

Generally speaking,although there are exceptions,trainer's get little credit if their fighters win and ALL the blame should their fighter lose.Don't have a clue who this Bill Nelson is,but I suspect he has been blamed for Burns downfall.God forbid,the fighter actually taking blame for his **** poor performance.

 

Watch out for him on the telly or weigh ins for the Glasgow cards.

He is the skinny one standing behind many of the fighters.

The question is to the so called experts is how do you stop from ricky going back on the ropes, keep guys like beltram ect off when the power isnt discouraging them. We all have answers to that but actually having the answers that should work and ones that do work are two different things. I m sure billy/tony have picked up on it as well as half the boxing public. Real answer is not what he should do but how he should do it.

Amir khan has the same problem when fighting at a higher level...will be shown again when he comes up against the wrong opponent.

To the people pointing out ricky's flaws...i ll hazard a guess put him in with a domestic level fighter and you'll find they wont be there. It's not billy's fault, or ricky's or tonys...that his careers ended up where it has...it's simply down to fighting better opposition. Do people not get that sometimes fighters lose to other fighters regardless of trainers. Ricky burns should be commended for what he's achieved as should nelson. I bet ricky is working harder than he ever has, wants it more than he ever has...and is still coming up short. Sometimes it's all about talent in the end. He's a telented lad ricky but you just need more to be at the top and unfortunately not many get it. Must be frustrating to read the stick for burns/nelson...it comes with the territory i guess.

No, just a fan of the best Scottish boxer of my life time, who is an all action warrior, with a terrific boxing brain and footwork. Only meet him once very briefly so not a member of his camp. He would never just curl up on ropes and let someone beat him up without having a right go at them. In fact never seen him get beat up.

 

Without a doubt Peter is a great coach but do remember Peter never considered Ricky good enough to even spar Scott years ago, so unlikely that was ever going to happen, although I agree when Ricky wanted a change Peter would have been a great choice

 

Is Peter Harrison an in-law of Eddie Hearn like Tony Sims is...............thought not.
