It was a Learning Experience i will never lose weight like that again,i dont think i was a ****** but i think i was naive and experienced to the sport of Boxing. It was my 1st fight so i was litterally willing to do Anything to lose the Weight. Now that i look back on it it was quite stupid of my but i naive Honestly most inexperienced naive boxers with zero fights will do whatever there coach says to make weight because they don't know better. its after a couple of fights where most fighters will question almost anything there coach tells them especially when it comes to making weight because they are now experienced and know what they have to do to lose weight properly and correctly.

Training for my first and only amateur fight (so far) was a lot like your experience. Weight's always been a big issue for me, my coaches always want me to drop roughly 50 pounds from my in shape weight because I'm under six feet tall so they want me in the lowest division possible. This is why i haven't fought much.

For that one fight, I lived on oatmeal, trail mix, and skim milk for like 4 months - 1 hr elliptical cross trainer session in the morning, 1 or 2 training sessions in the evening. Dropped roughly 60 pounds by the time of weigh ins.

Final weight-cut on day of weigh-ins:
No food, no water, alternate 1 hr elliptical crosstrainer sessions in sweat clothes & vinyl suit with warm showers. Once I got about 5~6 pounds away from weight I drove 4 hours in sweat clothes and vinyl suit with the heater on to the event. Once at the event site, played basketball for an hour till weigh in (still no water). Made it by like .5 lbs.

That night, all that was available was bad food from room service. Ate till I got sick. Forgot contact lens case, so threw out contacts (was questionable whether I could use them anyway). Hung out in the pool till bed time. Barely slept.

Next day, decent breakfast of oatmeal and banana. Waited around all day for my bout. Ate pizza and soda around noon (nothing else available at site, which was remote). Fought around 4. Fought blind. Was a bit fast at first but gassed REAL quick. Caught a bad shot, my chin was nothing after that weight cut, lost my equilibrium, didn't really even try to get up.

Fought smokers since, but nothing official. Would love to fight again, but don't know if I'll ever be able to kill myself like that again. Dropped a ton of weight in 2012 in a more healthy way, but still ended up getting sick (MRSA - serious) a month out from my fight. Not really sure why I gotta drop so much weight to fight anyway, I've always had more trouble with fast guys who hit hard than the big boys. Speed kills.
