Billy Nelson

I am a big burns fan and think him and billy made a great team and I thought it was a mistake burns relocating to es*** but........

before we all say billy is a world class trainer and burns would be nothing without billy lets just see if any of his current fighters ie simmons get to world level if he keeps producing champions then we can keep kissing his arse. The latest burns performance made him look like many steward!

Maybe billy got lucky with ricky time will tell

 

Billy doesn't train big Stevie Simmons anymore, he is with Danny Vaughn!!

Billy does have David Brophy and Andreas Evenson at the moment and I'm sure he'll have a couple others that i don't know about.

Imo anyone who trains a world champion deserves respect for their achievements and even if he never trains another world champion nobody will ever be able to take away the fact he did so twice with Ricky Burns!!

 

Do people not get that every fighter cant be turned in a world class fighter regardless of who's training them! Even guys like Roach can only take guys so far and what helps them is they have the oppertunity to pick and choose fighters that are capable of fighting at the top level. There's no real luck involved at having a world champion defending the belt numerous times albeit one that came up short against the better fighters out there.

Fair play to you moog...fan loyalty we rarely see nowadays. Amazed at the condition scott was in for his first comeback expected him to have absolutely nothing left after all he's been through...but proved a fair few wrong including myself. The dreams over now surely...or is it?? Having scott back would be interesting to say the least even if i didn't personally think it was going far. I'd like to see him taking the george foremann route back rather than the ricky hatton...and see where it takes him tho.

Agree to a certain extent, and big up you and Ricky for achieving what he has, but for some reason doesn't seem to have it anymore, and hasnt had it for last 3/4 fights.

I want to see him in more big fights, but cant see too far domestic level at the moment.

 

the truth is Shaun, Ricky got a hard time off CJ and his manager asked me to look at him, it was obvious to me he had talent but was utilising it correctly and his style of fighting at the time simple wouldn't have won him any title.
In fairness to Ricky he listened and learned and got correct fights leading up to his world title shot.

 

Personally I tend to believe Billy when he says he told Ricky about his mistakes. Not always easy to follow in the heat of battle against a world class opponent. At least I wouldn't imagine so. The boxer that Billy Nelson had was a world apart from the one who lost to Johanneson,so the trainer must take credit for that. I agree with those who say Ricky is in decline,started with Billy and continues with Sims. Really nothing to do with either trainer. I hope Burns now retires,he did well to get up from the knockdown in the first,but his heart will never leave him. Credit also to Billy Nelson for his integrity,and also for coming on here.

Your never shy to answer a question, so billy........... are ricky's best days behind him??? do you think he can win another belt against the current champions????

 

Really can't see Burns winning another title, would have to be a dramatic improvement on the last few fights to have any chance

 

Defininetly he can win another title just not against a southpaw he's simply not has effective, he's still easily the best LW in the UK when he proves that he hopefully will get another world title shot

 

you say he is easily the best lightweight in britain but isnt as effective against southpaws so how would you see a fight agains terry flannigan pan out? terry seems to be getting avoided by derry and will have the british title when he beats gethin on 26th. i think riky would beat him but if he does struggl e with southpaws would terry give him any problems at all or would it be an easy w for the rickster
