From watching the video, I'd say Lippe's fundamentals are surprisingly advanced for his limited experience. He's probably working and developing in the gym. What I would be concerned about at this point is; clinching and "falling in". He definitely is not punching like a novice, especially the left hook.
Clinching and falling in are part of your fundamental package in boxing 101. He needs to work on his balance and body punching it helps him from fall in. His father had a incredible body hook in the beginning of his career.
His first pro bout was lackluster, but as that was only his second "fight" period, I'd say he did a hell of a job. He got his ass put on the mat, which is probably a good thing as he learned that's not the place to be. Tasting canvas also probably made him realize that he needs to listen to Holden, defense! defense! defense! His second pro fight was a gigantic leap forward, and while his opponent was nothing to note (as to be expected), the level of progress, to me, is incredible and highly evident. The head movement is moving in the right direction, the speed is there, the power is there (beautiful KO victory via left hook), spacial control is starting to develop, punch distance and timing in his second fight is leaps and bounds forward. With all of this said his third pro fight should show if his improvement will continue at a steady (and stellar) pace, or if he will stagnate. His dad is a hell of a boxer to live up too. His left hook, as I said, looks promising, and if he comes by it honestly from Tommy and can round everything else out we might just have something going on here. Thanks for posting the article BTW.
Go watch the actual, amateur video of his first pro fight. The reason he gets knocked down is he was off balance. Second fight not so much.:good
