I don't want to labour the point .Frazier was a good man but your statement was, "Joe had the honor of a real champion". I don't see that reflected in him defending his title against two no hoper unranked men tying up the title for 2 years while his deserving challengers waited there chance. You have the right to pick any champ you like and Joe is a good choice, but I don't think its me who is confused.
Vitali Klitschko, tremendous outside fighter, used his height and reach to maximum effectiveness, and other than the Lewis fight never took a lot of punishment. in time I believe he'll get his just do, and it might surprise people but I'm not a big fan of younger brother Wladimir, I feel the younger brother's only strength over Vitali is in single shot punching power.
ah....same as a lot of others....joe louis....the style, the short punches, the grit, the lack of flashiness....the time period he fought in, the style of films of his fights, the folklore surrounding a lot of his career.
Rocky Marciano, We have so much in common. You couldn’t sing. I can’t, either. You couldn’t dance. Neither can I. You were poor, and made your way to the top. I’m still poor, making my way to the top. All I have to do is become champion. He's my hero
I also like Elmer "Violent" Ray I dig the mythological unknown factor about him. Leaves a lot to the imagination. Wish more would surface about him.
Henry Cooper. Set a good example, wasn't perfect. but a man of his Times that represented a generation of uncle's who grew up in the war. No dirt, no scandal. Became a high profile working class, mainstream national personality. Always completely normal and unspoilt. Everyone had an uncle like Cooper. As a fighter he would be cut and would just get on with it. Good box puncher without being world champion material.
Not a real, widely accepted champion but perhaps if timing allowed it, an older champion on his way down or a vacant partial type championship could perhaps be within coopers grasp. Breif belt holder tops. I also like Tokyo Douglas, the whole sleeping giant story is great. I love the idea of the impossible upset with a great one time performance where potential is fulfilled all in one moment.
Mike Tyson So exciting in his prime, when Tyson fought EVERYBODY watched So well drilled. Superb skills, thunderous power and accuracy, great head movement, unbelievable footwork, the fastest hands in heavyweight history plus a real seek and destroy attitude. Great body puncher great jab and a million inventive ways to set up a knockout leaving everyone gasping as giants went toppling like trees usually very early on. Larry holmes once said 'when earnie shavers hit you it was like being hit by a truck, but when Tyson hit you it was like being hit by a Corvette
my favourites are ali and foreman, but i like so much floyd patterson, beautiful style, genltleman out of the ring, i like tons of hws holyfield , frazier, tyson, tim witherspoon, jack johnson, dempsey, max baer, george chuvalo, marciano, jimmy young, ron lyle, sam langford... i like specially the hitters
Larry Holmes. He has his detractors for sure, but precious few fighters would hold up under the scrutiny he bore. I don't take any of the "he didn't fight Page or rematch Witherspoon so he is the suck" bull**** too seriously. People are gonna dislike who they dislike, so whatever. I always liked Larry and rooted actively for him, as I sympathized with him due to all the maligning throughout the years. He could be crass in response, but who among us wouldn't get a bit testy with all that? Plus, on his best day he beats Witherspoon and Page and Tate and Coetzee and any of the others you want to throw out there. Wanna make him an underdog against any of those guys? Please. Give it a rest.
