If Maidana can give Mayweather so much trouble with such a crude offence, would Basilio go one better and beat Floyd?

At WW or JMW Basilio would put Mayweather through hell and if he landed with the same punch that Mosley landed and then abruptly stopped fighting, well, Basilio isnt letting Mayweather off the hook.

Yes, it's a tough fight for Mayweather. Basilio was tough for anyone. Very interesting clash of styles.

there is no one around like Basilio but if he was I would bet on him, he was strong, had power and resilience and had no fear of anyone. Floyd is an excellent boxer and could sharp shoot behind his defense but Basilio had more to offer than Maidana and Castillo and I give him a solid chance for victory

Floyd to win a close but clear decision. Basilio will have some very encouraging moments early on but eventually Floyd will time him and counter the **** out of him.

The problem Floyd is going to have is that in this era, unfortunately, fighters that get countered get discouraged and end up just getting outpointed. Basilio was a tougher guy from a tougher era and a guy who mentally was willing to eat counters all night long in order to open up the guys defense and land his own. Floyd isnt going to ease into a comfort zone like he does with todays fighters against Basilio. He may land 4 to 1 but that one coming back at him will be there often enough and hard enough that Im betting Floyd isnt anywhere near as busy, accurate, or willing to throw counters as he is against the mentally weak fighters of today. If he does actually show more than a mustard seed for a fighting heart (which I doubt) and Basilio lands on him like Mosely did, Floyd is going down. If Floyd goes down my bet is Basilio would be all over his ass and finish him. When Basilio started entering his prime in 1953 he was a handful for anyone within 10 pounds of him. Floyds best shot is to cut Basilio's face to ribbons or swell his eyes shut and even then Basilio would be in there battling all the way.

Basilio would grind Mayweather into dust.

Robinson wanted no more of Basilio after going 1-1 and he was a guy famous for going back to beat guys who defeated him or gave him problems.
He gave Ray terrible hell and shook him forever.

Basilio isn't going to tire out after 6 like Maidana. He's going to come on strongr after 6!

Foyd simply doesn't have the dog in him to throw down in a brawl that would be forced on him. He picks his shots before or after a guy throws but won't have that lesuire against the solid as a rock Union Farmer.

I give Floyd credit for being a good fighter regardless of all thats been aimed at him (most of which is true) and could possibly win over 12 (or win 1 outta a trilogy), but i think he'd be a lucky guy hearing the bell at the end of the 15th against Basilio.

C'mon guys, Basilio is one of my favorites but he is pretty slow compared to Floyd. He is tough and has huge heart and punch resliance, but he would not be able to handle Floyd's potshoting, backpeddaling and fencing. He was a monster in his prime, but let's not underestimate Floyd. Yeah, Basilio would always be going after Floyd, but he wouldn't be able to catch him. His only way of winning is knockout.

This guy who is too good for Basilio refused to fight Pacman and lost 6 rounds to Maidana who is a lesser fighter than Basilio. How can Basilo beat and put Robinson through hell but be an easy win for Mayweather who while still a great fighter , avoided his biggest rival his whole career?

Floyd doesn't trade for punch for punch and thats what gets him undone here.

I feel Mayweather would take this on points. Of course volume and well placed aggression can bother Mr Mayweather, as it can to anyone. However I feel Mayweather at his best would know better than to try and trade with Basilio. Basilio of course would have his moments, most likely making it relatively unpleasant on the ropes by trapping Floyd.

However, all in all, even though Basilio had a terrific defence, Floyd's shots are incredibly accurate and hard to avoid. I see a fight in which it goes the full 15, with Floyd taking the early lead and Basilio outworking and taking the last rounds on aggression in a fight scored something like 9-6/9-7-1.

Gotta disagree on the defense part. Basilio was very hittable, partly because he didn't mind exchanging but he was also lacking in the defense department. :)
