Just realised I quoted myself in one of these. It was supposed to be a reply to one of Terrys. I may know nothing about boxing, but even less about I.T.
I think thats a great choice. Especially as you say coming off that win,and putting up a good fight against Murray. Id be a bit surprised if he was actually one of the best 15 at the weight in the world, but he's a real tough competitor and its a good fight. I want George to do well, wanted him to beat Froch, but like the majority, didn't think he would, either time. Other than Ward, this division is wide open. Plenty of oppounities for both him and James. And I agree with the lad who says he doesn't want to see it unless one has a world title. The way things are going, that looks like James.
Seen that :think Will surely be naming his next opponent, suppose the guessing games will go into overload until next week. As a Groves fan, with him coming off the back of 2 defeats, as long as who's put in front of him puts him in position for Abraham I'll be happy.
Groves wont achieve nearly as much as he should in the end. Massive groves fan i genuinely think his strengths are stronger than most out there...but his weaknesses will come back to haughnt him time and time again. Groves had froch beat all ways up....and ended up ****ing it all up in the end. imo he wont learn from it his confidence is a massive plus but at the same time it can also be a massive weakness....the way he's going i'ts a massive weakness. He went into that ring tiny ring believing he had froch beat before the fight even started. Anyone with any sense would have realised that froch should never be under-estimated. Watch out for him doing the same thing again and again just as much as audley harrison believes he could beat tyson because he was once an amateur champion. I will add i m a massive groves fan but sensible to admit he will under-achieve.
He will get an easy fight for his first back I imagine, but after that they are going to want him in attention grabbing fights. Even if it is only getting Euro coverage they are going to want to see if he can get wins over other contenders. He has a lot of potential as long as he don`t let the KO loss change too much of what he does. Would not know what to suggest trainer wise, would probably say stick with Fitzpatrick for now but Sauerland probably have their own ideas regarding that.
Groves won't achieve nearly as much as he should in the end?? Before the first Froch fight, most people where say he was going to get steam rolled. He's come out of both fights, yes on the losing side, but winning the majority of the rounds and also hurting Froch more so than anyone had done in the past. He's a future world champion without a shadow of a doubt and even though he's coming off the back of 2 losses, he'll have learned 20 times more than he would have done had he boxed more of the likes of Gonzalez. He didn't underestimate Froch at all, he's not daft. The persona he used in the lead up to both fights was to hype them up with them being PPV and also to get under Froch's skin in an attempt to take him away from his gameplan. I personally think it will make him a better fighter. He's 26 years old and soon to be hitting his prime - has just given a well established world class fighter a good run for his money twice, he can take a lot away from that and use it as a positive. Let's not forget, Groves could have took a much easier route to a world title than Froch. But he wanted to take the quickest route and also provide himself with the toughest test - I think it should be applauded that we have a young, hungry British fighter coming through that wants to fight the best around.
I agree with pretty much all of that. Only the persona thing. i dont...i actually think that is george we're seeing hence the reason he never changed the persona when it became clear that it wasn't working the second time round to get under froch's skin. Think adam booth touched on it a bit when he said george suffered from complacency it was something that came up between them when he trained george. The difference between groves and froch...is that froch is pretty much the opposite to george in that he's not that confident, he's insecure even and what should be his biggest weakness he uses it to be his biggest strength. You know that froch is making sure he's coming to the ring with no stone unturned because he's worried about it and it's that thats kept him where he is at 35 years old. Whereas george is confident he's using it it's his biggest weakness. Believing that he could beat froch, going at it without booth, picking paddy mainly because he could do it george's way. Believing he could beat froch anyway he wanted. Unlike froch's team george only seemed to concentrate on himself, and forgot about what froch was going to bring whereas froch's team and whole gameplan was making adjustements to stop george rather than solely concentrating on what froch could bring. And in the end no matter wat way you look at it george got it wrong. Instead of coming out saying that froch's adjustements ended up winning him the fight up until the stoppage and realising mistakes were made he claimed he was winning the second fight comfortably and just got caught by a punch...he was just unlucky. George should be winning a world title and i also believed that out of anyone he had the most chance of giving ward a massive test he has the tools. But he will never go on to fulfill his potental till they start dealing with weaknesses and being honest with themselves. I genuinely think he will continue to push himself into fights maybe before he's ready. I say regardless of how well he fought against froch...anyone that got took out how he got took out with very basic boxing wasn't ready for it. Also think he's going to always be too vulnerable think froch said it right...george is too fragile to stay around world level for as long as someone like froch. Doesn't mean he wont win big fights just think he will come up a bit short in others. More learning needed he might be able to get his hands on a title but is he ready to defend that title time after time. I say no, he should be going back a level, he's ready to trouble anyone out there but either too inexperienced or too complacent to go out and do it at the minute for me...and here's where the weakness lies he believes he's ready now...and it will prove his undoing. I sincerely hope i m proved wrong because i like george and respect what he almost pulled off against all the odds also a great boxer with the potential to be top quality. One more thing i ve just remembered agreeing to that boxing ring...smallest ring i ve ever seen. No one that wasn't over-confident would have agreed to that knowing it played into froch's hands. One things for sure he had eddie and froch genuinely rattle and almost came, saw and conquered...and then fell short!
Also just like to add i ve got the biggest hangover in the world the day...apologies for posting so much shite late night on a few different threads...just amazed my spelling wasn't that bad! Just to add i'd like to see george as a front foot fighter exclusively...i see lots of similarities with haye in him. I think he has too much power for most out and i honestly believe he would have beat froch the secon fight if he came out exactly the same way he did the first fight. Would have had too much for degale in their fight too but instead he comes out looking for mistakes and fights cagey the same way haye done with valuev and klitchko which was more understandable because of the massive size difference. I dont see why you bring a fighter up one way fighting on the front foot then when the big fights come up you revert to a different style. Groes should be looking to take out anyone he fights from the first round for me...and he'll get most of them out of there.
