Was switching from 15 round to 12 rounds a good choice?

It's safer and I prefer 12 rounds in terms of length, I think it's the perfect length for a boxing match.

Taking the fights down to 12 rounds is a safety move. It is a must. Humans are only evolving into bigger, stronger, and faster athletes. What athletes can do now is much more deadlier. With 15 rounds you would surely see many more deaths and other tragedies. Marciano was an 187 pound heavyweight. Now we have 6'7" 260 pound heavyweights on the regular. 15 rounds of guys that size would be much more disastrous. I know fans like to see only their perspective and want blood at whatever cost but boxing is still a sport. We can not allow it to be savagery. Ward/Gatti for 15 rounds? Thats 45 minutes of getting punched. That'd be like pushing MMA title fights to 9 five minute rounds. Boxing once was an ignorant sport. It used to be bareknuckle, used to have eternal rounds, used to not end a round until a knockdown occurred, etc. Boxing already holds the longest fights 36 minute fights. 15 rounds would be tunneled vision acknowledgement of the people outside the ring and a total disregard for the safety of the fighters. Nice for the fans but deadlier chances for the human beings in the ring.

That don't speak to the rounds but the preparation. Fighters used to go fifteen rounds with no issues because that's what they trained for. Now, they only train for twelve.

15rds made a lot more sense e..it requires a different level of conditioning and helps to truly separate the better fighter and leaves less decisions in the hands of corrupt and/or stupid judges.

Everyone is spouting off about "blood battles" and "savagery" but how many truly savage battles go the whole 12, let alone 15?

Safety? why not 10 rounds? why 12?

World title fights should still be 15 rounds hagler vs leonard and fights like mayeather vs maidana would of benefited from being 15 rounds

Also imagine a 15 round snoozefest instead of a 12 rounder.

    Thats very true.

But think of the drama filled fights that 15rds would have left no question..

Pac-Marquez 1,2,3, mayweather-maidana, Bradley-Marquez, DLH-Trinidad. All fights demanding rematches that could have been avoided if we only had some REAL championship rounds.

Those 3 extra rounds- those final 9 minutes push men to their limits that 12 rounds just doesn't do. There wasn't so many rematches in the older days because of this (and other reasons too) I think .

A lot of those 15 rd fights were hugfests with dead tired fighters doing little in those 'championship rounds'.

IMO all championship fights should be 8 rounds if they really wanted to make the sport safer.

15 round fights are better and mostly safer. Can u imagine Mayweather/Maidana in a six round fight.Floyd would have had to do some Mike Tyson imitation and might have gotten sparked out for it. Now imagine the two in a 15 round fight. It probably goes similar to the 12 rounder w Mayweather clearly taking a whole block of 6-15 instead of a whole block of 6-12. A clearer victory via "true championship rounds".

Now imagine Tyson vs Lewis in a 6 rounder. Lewis might've got sparked by an emboldened, rampaging Tyson, a guy he could beat 8 out of 10 times in a 15 rounder.

Now I know no one mentioned a 6 rounder but lets go in the other direction too, unlimited rounds. If Mayweather and Pacquiao fight, I want it to be unlimited rounds. Both guys have mythological, legendary superhuman stamina. Lets put that to the test too. May the BEST man win.

BTW I know I didn't argue 12 rds vs 15 rds. My argument is simply that the # of rds matter and maybe we should do away with them.

As would many others who were permanently damaged or died in the "championship rounds", as they used to be referred to.
