Hello, I finally had my first amateur boxing match at 165 lb yesterday. I've been training for a real long time, but I think the nerves kinda got to me when the fight started so I wasn't really able to do what I would usually able to do in sparring. Just wanted to say it still feels great to have my first fight and hopefully in my next fight I won't be as nervous.
Good job, mate ! It's important that you don't get discouraged. I think you will do much better your next fight. From 1 Amateur to another, good luck in your endeavors !
You had the guts to step up there and no one can take that away from you. I'd say to ask your coach or whoever was in your corner what they thought was going on in the fight. Too bad they didn't record it so you could see where/how you lost the fight in order to fix your weakness.
it sounds great that you still have motivation and courage .. its obvious everyone felt nervous first time like you felt so stay calm and rock next time
lol....to be honest, seldom does anybody EVER do what they're supposed to do in their first fight. The nerves, the adrenaline...heck I STILL don't fight anywhere near as good as I spar, even with about 11 fights now. Anyway, yeah with first fight jitters now outta the way - i'm sure you'll do much better in the next fight. Best of luck!
I'm 18 years old btw. I now have 3 fights total, but damn lost them all. The 2nd fight I got my nose busted from a good shot and in the 3rd round I started to flurry with the other guy, but my headgear turned when I got hit so the referee stopped the fight. And the 3rd fight which I had yesterday was against a guy I sparred before at a other gym, the funny thing was when I sparred him I worked him real good. But when it was fight time I couldn't do the things I usually do at the gym. So for me I'm still getting too damn nervous at the fights and hopefully with more fights I'll start to calm down and get comfortable in that ring. EDIT: Well the positive thing was that I was less nervous for the 3rd fight even though I still lost, but can't help myself getting nervous before the fight. I guess I'm learning and improving after every fight.
So wait.....you had 3 fights in ONE MONTH?!?!? Damn...that's a busy schedule. I don't mind having a couple fights a week or two apart, that way you maintain the focus. But that would mean sparring in the same week that you're fighting, or no sparring at all. Neither of which are really ideal.
Just remember to keep your head up high. Only a few can say that they have the balls to step in the ring and that alone speaks a lot about your courage. I remember before my first fight that after the competition was done, I will never fight again. But now, I've had 6 fights and I might fight again on November. I also lost my first fight btw
