boxrec is more reputable than any of the ABC sanctioning bodies. 19-3 with 3 knockouts :-( and not 1 win on his record vs anyone remotely ranked of course no one has seen him, who the hell is gonna put this guy on tv?
It is a joke of a fight and definitely shows Haymon is not too confident about putting Garcia in with another top 10 fighter, which is very weird since he put him in with Khan and Matthysse and Garcia handled them both pretty well. One close fight against a slick/cagey fighter does not warrant such a terrible choice of opponent. So he looked average, who cares? Paul Williams lost to Quintana and rematched him immediately, destroyed him in one round.
Another thing to mention is this guy is ranked as a lightweight So Danny Garcia will defend his unified belts against a complete nobody featherfisted blown up lightweight scrub calling this match a joke is an understatement
By all means, I dont know Salka and he seems to be a nice guy from what people say, so I hope he can cause a good impression, and if he wins, good for him. And about Danny, I dont even think hate on him is warranted either. After all, I dont think this fight was his idea, hes got his father, his managers and whatever, I figure those are the ones that decide for him. Danny clearly has courage and is not afraid of anyone as he has already showed, so my feeling is that any fears around his future performances might be only in the minds of the people that makes decisions regarding his career, and not his own mind.
Wtf.. Is Danny a bum or not? He's the best at 140 or not? People here change their mind about fighters depending on what thread they're in.. People say Mayweather can't fight him because he's a bum, but he can't fight bums because he's the best at 140.. I get what you're saying though.. He shouldn't fight this guy because he's not good-great, but make up your mind about what level boxers are on...
That's fine, but the OP was being inconsistent. You can't trash one guy for fighting a guy with a low Boxrec rating, and then trash another guy for fighting a guy who's ranked highly by Boxrec.
I think Danny coulda got Peterson, but he realizes he was outta sorts, mentally, physically, something during the Herrera fight, and he's trying to make a play for a Mayweather or Pacqioua fight, or another titlist at 147.... So I think they did what you said, only dipped down to the TJ Wilson rather than taking the Chris Arreola.:think
Lots of bitches up in this thread. If it was another person fighting Rod Salka, he'd be excused. Matthysse can fight someone he's 18-1 favourited against, and somehow it's one of the greatest fights in the history of the sport.
Why would anyone want to see Herrara fight? He can't break an egg and makes for an ugly fight. Plus he can't draw flys. End of story.
You can't count Herrera. Just because Herrera gave your boy a schooling doesn't mean he wasn't looked upon as a soft touch before the fight. Looking back at a retrospective point of view, most boxing fans and critics were not giving Herrera a chance to beat Garcia/labeling him a bum and rightfully so. Herrera lost his last fight to Karim Mayfield, an unproven prospect. The fact that Danny Garcia is taking two soft touches in a row, while he is the unified light welterweight champion, is disgraceful. Even when Marquez unofficially beat Pacquiao in their third fight (according to your logic, Marquez beat Pacquiao), Pacquiao went on to fight undefeated Timothy Bradley in his next fight. I'm just saying it like it is, I can see when posters put double standards on certain fighters. Danny deserves to be grilled for this move, and you know it.
Thank you. These fans are as bad for boxing as the people that orchestrate these events. Herrera was a soft touch, he just happened to get either an unmotivated Garcia, or was a bad style. That guy is no way a top fighter. 2 soft touches after one hard fight and because Herrera did do well, they are giving Garcia a guy with literally zero offering against him and will also give the guy no money to fight him like the Guerrero thing. This is disgraceful and fans defending it are disgraceful. They've become so soft in this Mayweather/Haymon era. Back in the day fighters got grilled for not fighting the best, much less things like this. A gift decision immediately requires a rematch. A close fight like Matthysse fight as well at least merits one, but thats another risk since they hit a lucky spot with that eye closure. How can anyone defend this? This isn't just a soft touch, it's a total unadulterated mismatch and spit on the fans.
