what did he actually do other than swing and miss?

Norton murdered Ali in fight three. I then caught the cover of a boxing mag saying "the amazing Ali wins the big one again!"

Its very debatable if one considers Arthur Mercante a more knowledgeable boxing man then you, and of course he was an expert having taught scores of ref's and judges the Mercante method of boxing scoring, his score as ref. was 8-6 Ali and the two judges had it by one round for Ali, the Associated press had it 9-6 Ali as did many boxing scribes. In addition the week after the bout WWS held a live boxing panel to review the bout and score it round by round with Kenny present, their combined result was a draw in 15. Having been in boxing for five decades my score mirrored many with the last round and decision going to Ali. The compubox numbers didn't decide who won this bout as the 82 more punches Ken landed (281-199) didn't gain him any additional rounds, each happening in rounds Ali rested and lost by 1pt in each; Rd 2) Ken 26-13; Rd 5) Ken 31-7; Rd 6) Ken 23-4; Rd 8) Ken 34-15. The volume landed didn't earn any 2 pt margins or change the number of rounds won according to the judges, ref. or associated press scribes.

 

It is the only one that stands out.

Well Red once again we agree on something and that's rare! Indeed Egg fu Young beat a trained on ice cream Ali. The Norton bout will be debated for a long time with many having it come down to the last round. While the judges, ref., and associated press had it an Ali win the Upi had it by 1 pt the other way for Norton and the Wide World of Sports panel of boxing experts had it a draw. It was just that close to many in boxing.

Very good topic of discussion Markclitheroe. It lets people know that even the greatest of all time Ali, and true he was great, had some controversial decisions of his own. Yet most of these haters out there love to pull Floyd's first fight with Castillo out of there a** even though it's been Floyd's only fight as a professional that marrs controversy and most definitely was not on the same level as Trinidad's decision over Delahoya. All of Floyd's other tough and close fights as a pro against Delahoya, Cotto and Maidana were fights that Floyd clearly won. The first Castillo fight, a fight that I scored for Floyd 7-5 after both fighters were deducted a point in the contest and a fight that Floyd fighting with a sore shoulder still made the agressive Castillo miss slightly more than he landed, remains the only fight of Floyd's 46 fight pro career that remains debatable. Ali, Chavez Sr., Louis, Lewis, Holmes, Leonard, DeLahoya, Foreman and Holyfield are amongst a list of all time great fighters who had more than one debatable decision in their pro careers compared to Floyd's one against Castillo who Floyd gave an immediate rematch to 8-months later and beat by a more decisive decision.

Rather than being awarded a false KO, Ali should have been Disqualified.

It took Walcott 17 seconds to force Ali into a neutral corner. When Walcott went back to Liston, Ali went back to the center of the ring.

 

Ali lost to Jones and Alonzo Johnson and Liston twice and Frazier two out of three and Norton all three and Shavers and Young and Spinks. And Chuvalo.

shavers himself said that ali won the fight, he said.. in the ring i felt that i won but when i watched the fight i admit that he won... and ali did beat frazier in 1974 clearly. ali looked bad vs young and norton

 

Are n't you forgetting the Jean-Pierre Coopman and Brian London fights ?
