114-113 Hopkins, so says the Associated Press, ESPN.com and many ESBers.

It was close, and it could have gone either way, but in my opinion, Calzaghe just nicked it, and I think that is the view of the majority, whatever the opinion of a a boxing writer, there is a greater opinion in the press and in the whole that he won the fight, just.

I had it 7-5 for Calzaghe. I have to be objective. Calzaghe did land some clean shots as the fight wore on.

I had it 8-4 Calzaghe. I thought, from round 4 on, he had Hopkins fighting his fight. He had Hopkins trying to throw flurries with him. How some people think that Hopkins controlled the tempo of the fight after the 4th round, I just can't see it. Add to the fact that Hopkins over exaggerated to the low blow and then tried to fake another, has me convinced that Joe's pressure was getting to him.

A lot of guys don't know how to judge a fight. Ring generalship, effective aggression. Ya'know things like that have gotta count for something. If Joey Cal is winning so decisively why does it look as if Hopkins hadn't even been in a fight at the conclusion of the bout? And please don't tell me it was because Joe C was attacking the body. Look, Joe C didn't do any damage. He never hurt Bhop (not once, w/ all of those "landed punches") or had him in danger of touching the canvas. Joe let a crafty ol' vet do what crafty ol' vets do . . .whatever it takes to get the "W." There's no shame in that. I just wish Joe would acknowledge and accept that.

ahh, even in the boxing forum you're pathetically off-base.

    Hops won 3 rounds.

    ".... and many ESBers" ?

There was a poll with 350+ votes and only 10% of ESB had Hopkins winning.

You're right, Hopkins wasn't hurt, but that's because he pulled a ***** move.

BETY's requirements to win a round:
    Effective Acting
    Strong Clinching
    Lack of Aggression

Anyone who thinks Hopkins won this fight must have been born yesterday. Yes, I acknowledge that Hopkins was landing the cleaner shots. But everybody knows that Las Vegas judges always award points to the aggressor, the guy throwing the punches, and the fighter who's pushing the action.

Whether or not this is suitable criteria for scoring the fight is irrelevant. Everybody's aware of what the judges are looking for before the fight. Bernard should have done more to score points.

I'll put it like this. Enzo Cal seemed to think Hops was winning as he was telling Joe C that he was losing the fight and then as soon as the fight is over alluvasudden it's a legitimate win. Somebody explain that to me.

And as expected nobody answered my question about how so many "landed punches" could produce absolutely no damage and how a fighter who was never even close to hurting the other fighter can somehow come off the canvas to net a 116-111. Something smells a little fishy to me. Wouldn't be surprised as this is boxing we're talking about. Go figure.

This was duly noted by me as well. I think he may have followed after Spitzer and may indeed be Client-10.
