I am always pulling for the fighter who is landing the cleaner, harder shots versus the guy who is boxing or running, depending on your perspective. I always pulled for Frazier over Ali and Hearns over Leonard. I thought Provo beat Bradley and Algieri. But I believe the bottom line, to the extent it can be controlled, money will always determine who the winner will be. Frankly, I don't think Canelo is much of a fighter. But he has the intangible of being able to generate a lot of revenues. He has captured the imagination of the Mexican boxing fan. If he were some pock-faced, homely kid he would have at least two more losses on his record already. For true fight fans, I agree a Provo-Pac fight would be MUCH more interesting and exciting. However, for the marginal fan, I think Algieri will draw more money. He is based out of New York. Provo comes from the backwoods around Beryozovo. You and I know what the guy brings but most people don't.
I don't think it's necessarily killing the sport, but it's not helping. Before PPV, the big fights were on closed circuit Lack of sponsors and boxing having a big presence on network TV is more harmful.
no we dont score slomo, we are telling you to watch it slo-mo cause your eyes are as good as an autistic kid.
We don't watch in slo-mo is true...but then again we don't score shots that don't land either...oh wait...
I don't like PPV at all but I can at least understand if the super fights are put there. But crap like the following does NOT belong on damn PPV: Canelo-Angulo Canelo-Lara Mosley-Mora Marquez-Diaz 2 And potential future fights like Pacquiao-Algieri, Chavez Jr-Froch don't belong there either.
Everytime someone tries to use slow motion to make their case you know they're desperately reaching for something.
Here's the deal. Someone has to take the risk. The greater the risk, the greater the reward. Lara chose not to take any risks, so he gets rewarded with fans being disappointed in his fighting style, and low purses from here on out. And that's fair. Why should someone else do all the work, take potentially the most damage by taking the risk, than the guy that chooses to stink the fight out? Someone has to be the entertainer because at the end of the day, boxing is a spectacle. It's entertainment. Two guys staring at each other and running, which is what we got when Trout fought Lara, is not something the majority of people would be willing to tune into. They just don't want to see it. Lara could opt to sell his soul, like Mayweather may have done, but one way or another you have to pay your dues. He can become a terrible human being and make people want to see him get destroyed in the ring or he can man up and take risks. It's up to him. But that's what makes money. Maybe you should send him a memo. Personally, put Lara in with Kirkland, and there won't be anymore discussions about Lara.
