Will Mike Tyson Promotions become a Major player?

Mike's not a business guy, so he'll need to get lucky on that end of the business. He needs the right partners. But as far as boxing and entertainment instincts go, he's got what it takes.

 

Tyson doesn't hate Haymon, and he doesn't like Arum. Tyson dislikes Arum as much as he dislikes Don King.

 

I think Iron Mike can do quite well with it. He has really good boxing knowledge, and most importantly his name is recognizable to fans, fighters, and execs. People will attend his events as he grows, just to see Mike.

Hopefully he succeeds, he can be good for boxing and having an engaging career he enjoys pouring his life into should help him battle his demons as well.

The level of his success really depends on his aspiration in promoting. :good

His name brand is probably even more marketable than the Golden Boy.

 

He should be appreciated for trying to give something back to the sport which made him and gave him everything

 

I don't know about that. I'm studying economics, just a bunch of ****ing statistics, elasticities and some other bull****. Starting to think i should've went into accounting or finance.

Law on the other hand teaches you some damn good survival skills imo.

Tyson's outfit will be like all fighters' promotion companies outside of Golden Boy - a marginal player.

 

Economics is interesting, just need to break out of the bubble-microcosm thinking of Cambridge/Keynesian economics and look at the Austrian/Hayek school which puts the statistics components in relevant context with other sciences. Economics is at heart, a social science - a study in and analysis of the behavior of people, not numbers and money. The numbers on goods and money are just some useful metrics.

You can't limit economics solely on the Harvard/Wall Street house-of-cards paradigm.
In fact, Haymon is actually demonstrating that there is a better model that is superior to he old corrupt model boxing has been following for decades.

Oh i agree. It's extremely interesting but i just don't see how it will be beneficial for a promoter or boxing manager.

IMO they are better off with something more practical like law,finance etc. A study of human behavior in boxing isn't really necessary imo. It's pretty obvious what you need to be a draw (ethnic following, power, personality etc.)

Unless a masters in economics is vastly different from a bachelors, economics is mostly theories and graphs. I don't see how it would help with the business side of boxing.

Also from what i understand, Harvard economics is economics in name only. Apparantly you learn all the business stuff too.

He doesn't have to run the business. He can do exactly as Oscar has done and hire a Richard Schaefer to run the business. People who think Oscar ran or runs GBP are missing a few screws in heir noggins.

As to your failed comment about Tyson always failing, his Broadway 1 man show produced by Spike Lee was a huge hit. He made a lot of money, employed a lot of people and performed a lot of shows. That's called, success. :yep
