For something a bit different here, We can need to try to sub any fighter(with similar or inferior attributes) in against any other fighter and achieve the same result yet somehow change the legacy of that fighter the most. As some examples to illustrate what i mean: Bob Fitzsimmons to step in place of Joe Choynski and KO Jack Johnson. This would likely have Fitzsimmons a top 10 heavyweight and by default, Jeffries could go number one. George foreman to step in for Buster Douglas, and KO a partying Mike Tyson. Would this have been enough to push him number one? Jack Dempsey to step in for Paulo Uzcuden and destroy Harry Wills. Would this have finished off todays claims that Dempsey ducked Wills, and make Dempsey a lock top 5 fighter. Those are some logical ones, but are there any others that could really change the course of history.
What if Lopez hadn't faced Ortiz then might of had Canelo-Ortiz? Had Tito stayed longer at 147 to face equally deadly Jose Luis Lopez. Ibeaubuchi vs Lewis instead of Tua? Chris John vs Pacman Norris vs Delahoya if he hadn't lost to Killings.
What if Thomas Hearns had KO'd Hagler in three rounds and then never fought Barkley? How much closer to the top ten ATG's would he have been then?
Jones retired after Ruiz Toney kept in shape Whitaker didn't get screwed over by judges Calzaghe had fought better opposition sooner Lewis v Tyson in 1990-1991
if Jones would have retired after Ruiz....i think he probably would have been called the GOAT honestly....there would have been a serious argument for him
