Has anyone come across any good definitions?

I read a very good one a while ago, think it was by a trainer but can only remember bits of it. Think he defined it as the art of positioning yourself optimally so as to land a blow on your opponent in such a way so that he can't land one on you

Well it was much better than that but that was the gist

Traditional definition is to hit and not get hit. I don't much like that one because for some reason it gets turned around in people's head to be "not get hit and hit" Definition of boxing to me is "to maximize efficiency of movement"

    Styles make fights
    Hit and not get hit
You go swimming expect to get wet - you step in a ring expect to get hit

The definition of boxing currently is to pick your opponents carefully as to protect yourself & not put ones self at risk. or let your promoter pick a sh*tty opponent from his list on inhouse fighters so he can make money off your ass.

Yeah, I don't like that definition either. It get's wrongly used by the overly-defensive crowd and they forget that the sport has an offensive side to it. Touch and don't be touched are the rules to tag, not boxing. Boxing is more like "hit first, hit harder, keep hitting until your opponent stops hitting back." There's no such thing as not getting hit. Defensive artists like Rigo and Mayweather get hit a hundred times a fight, but people barely touched Tyson and Dempsey when they knocked their opponents out in the first round. People forget that the best defense is a great offense, and the knockout kings have more fights but less rounds than the untouchables.

Bump. It was basically a hit and don't get hit definition but longer and more prosaic
