Eddie Hearn "Big World title fight announcement coming soon for one of the team.."

I give Eddie a lot of stick for his foreign world title fights but this is actually one where I don't mind it, smiths had a good career with a lot of ups and downs and he deserves one final crack at the biggest prize

 

Will still be rooting for him - this is his world title chance, something he no doubt dreamed of as a kid when starting out as a fighter I hope he puts in a good showing.

 

No he doesn't i'm sorry just because someone has had a long career doesn't make them deserving of a world title shot, he's never beaten anyone above domestic level and has been destroyed twice by world level fighters, their are far far more deserving challengers.

 

Good points but tbh even if he only has a 1 percent chance of winning it's every fighters dream to fight for a world title

So the "Big World title fight announcement" is Paul getting fed to AA.
Maybe he makes it the full 12, Abraham's murderous punching power is nowhere to be seen lately.

 

Paul Smith has never beat anybody of note and I have no idea how he is ranked so highly, not that I blame Eddie or Paul for taking the shot with it being on offer.

 

Boxers with much less ability than Paul have fought for a world title and won, there's no reason Paul giving 100% and sticking to his plan why he shouldn't win

 

I get your sentiment Billy, but he's fighting Arthur Abraham and I assume he's a massive underdog in your book too.

It's hardly a big problem that Paul is getting a shot- if it wasnt him it would be a Latvian or Polish equivalent anyway - good luck to him

 

No disrespect Billy but there is a reason, he isn't good enough. I'm sure Brian Rose gave 100% and tried sticking to a gameplan but he wasn't allowed to. Boxers with less ability have certainly challenged and probably even won world titles but that isn't exactly saying anything. Can't really understand a man of your experienced throwing out such a silly statement.

Lets be honest Paul Smith has done nothing to earn this title shot. His four opponents since George Groves have had combined records of 50-74-6 and Tony Dodson accounted for 29 of those victories! By the way James Degale knocked him out two fights before George Grove did and he was an 8 fight rookie at the time.

I wouldn't usually get on the back of someone out of their depth challenging for a world title crack, but I admit I am no fan of Paul Smith. Never liked him and certainly never rated him. He would probably get beat out of sight at a good European level. I can't stand the way he goes on as if he has warranted this shot as I don't think he has ever even beat a top 50 Super Middleweight. All he has done is stay unbeaten for a few years through inactivity and fighting nobodies. His attitude when the Fielding fight was put to him was pretty poor (Fielding beats him btw) and then he went on the offensive when Rocky missed the weight. The comment that 'Charles Adamu wouldn't last two rounds with myself or Callum' made me chuckle the most. Callum maybe, but Paul's last win at the time was a 6 round points victory over Jamie Ambler! He's got no chance against an even faded Abraham and it speaks volumes that Arthur has resorted to these easy money defenses. Don't blame SMith for taking it, just don't like the man.

As long as it spares us from Smith's awful punditry it's fine by me.

 

Another chapter to the UK cannon fodder story. Not a chickens chance in China he gets the nod over there.

It could be competitive but a KO is out of the question.
