But i like most of them, its a great division.

 

Believe it or not, Augustus was always one of my favourite fighters to watch. The guy really had a fighter's spirit through and thru.
Unfortunately, he had no real management, no real consistent trainer, and no promotion. Due to this he was always taking fights on short notice and robbed on the cards.

His fight with Ward is a classic and although he beat Ward at his own game, he ended up being robbed once again.

Thurman is less proven, but I'm following him to see if he can get and get past the big fights to break through.

That one could've actually gone either way. Augustus vs. Burton I was the real egregious robbery on his record, along with Teddy Reid and maybe the Leavander Johnson draw. Much like with Glencoffe (or Fres Oquendo, and some others in the same boat who got done wrong a few times on national TV), the 'myth' of him always getting robbed sort of eclipsed reality and it got to a point where people would say none of his many decision losses were legit. That's bull****. A lot of times he was just unfocused and didn't put his all into his work, and while he usually was still competitive he certainly deserved to lose in many of those.

Only guy I can think of about whom the "always robbed" tag held truth in recent times was Delvin Rodriguez.

D-Rod IMO has three legitimate losses - the stoppages at the hands of Cotto and Feliciano, and the near-shutout by Trout. Not one of his other points defeats or draws was properly judged. He should hold victories over Theophane, Jackiewicz, Wolak x2, Hlatschwayo x2, and Eason. Six goddamn robberies (no ifs/ands/buts kind of robberies, too) in big fights, that has to be a modern day record. :-(

Of course, he did receive a gift draw over Alcine two months ago on FNF - not that it makes up for being screwed half a dozen times earlier in his career.

I never really understood why Augustus had no real support behind him.
Perhaps it was because he liked to have far too much fun in the ring and people ddidn't take him seriously, although as I recall, at one point he was being trained by the Mayweathers.
i often wonder how his career would have progressed had he the big time support behind him as Canelo or Bradley have.
Not trying to make excuses for him, but it may be that much of his being unfocused and playful in the ring may be due to his lack of good and consistent training, and promotional backing which would have allowed for proper training before fights.
