Haven't seen this fight since it happened. I remember thinking that Eubank was a couple of rounds up at the end. However a couple of times on the general forum its been suggested that Eubank got a gift. Are their others who agree with this?
No way!!! Eubank went to Berlin and put in a career top 2/3 performance. I went to Grand Canaria that year (94) and ended up in a German Hotel; but myself and my friend had the statisfaction of doing the Eubank strut in the hotel/pool to wind up the Germans.
Calzaghe to win the decision... Which bearing in mind the fight is in the States with an American ref and judges; Calzaghe WU12 would be the biggest upset since Tyson/Douglas!
I remember the fight when it happened, & Rocky hardly threw a punch for the first half of the fight! Eubank beat him fair & square. Eubank was given a few gift decisions in his time, but that wasnt one of them.
I Remember Eubank standing there in the middle of a rowdy German crowd, snarling at them and flaring his nostrils. Then proceeding to give their fighter a good pasting. Gotta love Chris.
Cheers! I suspected it was a disgruntled Graciano fan. (He was stiffed against DM I remember though) Obviously one of Eubanks best victories, Graciano was pretty capable.
Both Eubanks best performance and best win. The press conference was on live German TV and Eubank was pointing in the direction of Hitlers bunker with his aristocrat attire, and had to be escorted out. Rocky couldn't get his hands away from his face because Eubank was letting so many fast, light arm punches / head punches go and Rocky basically hardly threw a punch until about the 5th round. While it was the bodyshots that scored and won Eubank the rounds.
I haven't seen it since the time, but I thought Eubank deserved the win and it was one of his finest moments in the ring...not so much the boxing (though he fought well), but the whole aura and projection of his character, bursting with charisma and posing as the audience howled in fury at his arrogant ways. Would like to see it again sometime.
