Assuming GGG wins tonight what are the chances that it sets up a blockbuster in December at The Garden between the two main MW title holders? Opinions

I say zero, but I also said that about Cotto picking Martinez over Alvarez. Then again there's no health issues involved with Golovkin that would give Cotto an advantage.

Not sure who Cotto can fight for December other than Alvarez (where they could get a couple fights out of them two). Bradley was just smoke, and don't forget Trout beating Cotto, makes Lara, Andrade, Charlo's all non-options.

Nobody believes that Miguel Cotto is a real MW.
All the talk is about Cotto fighting a WW or JMW. What does that tell you?

maybe not, but he beat the man
I promise you that this is the fight that golovkin craves - regardless of who carries that mantle

If Cotto is the real MW champ, he'll fight his WBC mandatory Rubio or the winner of Ring #1 Golovkin and #2 Geale.

do you think Martinez got respect as the legit MW champ because of which belt holders he fought, even though we all know unifying was baby**** that the federations would break up anyway?

If cotto is made fight golovkin to the point where you can tell he doesn't really want it then he needs to do the honourable thing and relinquish the WBC title and stop calling yourself a middleweight champion when you don't want to face another middleweight champion. This defending it against canelo at 156 with the title on the line is a joke. He hasn't even campaigned at middleweight. If Golovkin beats Geale impressively tonight, draws 7-7,500 people at the garden which is what they are saying, decent crowd then cotto could really be backed into a corner here.

Martinez got respect for landing one punch on one guy that he never landed on anyone else. It was a great KO and still holds up.
I still think he would've got beat by Golovkin any time they got ring.

True but it is important, we are seeing a pattern. Golovkin sold out the theater 3 times last year, if he gets nice numbers tonight in the big room and we all know cotto is Mr. MSG. It looks good. Personally I think both golovkin and canelo beat cotto, just depends which one Miguel thinks is the lesser of two evils 😊

    maybe
but the important thing here is that Martinez DID land one punch on a guy he never landed on anyone else

Martinez was THE MAN at MW, and he took the hard road to earn that - and believe me, he earnt it
giving golovkin fantasy matchup points based on macklin and stevens, compared to paul Williams and Kelly pavlik is putting the horse before the cart
