Realistically if you started boxing late In life how old would you say you can keep on improving?

Iv loved boxing all my life but did not have the confidence to start myself until I was 28 I know im never going to be a world beater probley won't ever turn pro but I'm aiming to have as many amatuer fights as possible until my body packs in on me.

My trainer says if you look after yourself eat right and have a little bit of luck with injury s there's no reason why u can't keep improving into your late 30's

What is people's opinions on this??

Had 4 fights in 8 weeks towards the end of last season and looking forward to my first full season in September.

As long as your body don't give up on you. Mentally, you can remain sharp well into your 80s, so there's no reason you can't improve as long as your body allows it.

Yeah that's kind of what my trainer said, alot depends on both genetics and how well I take care of myself. Least I can take care of the latter part what will be will be I terms of my body holding up I'm not athletically gifted have to work hard for everything not sure if this will make a difference to what Injurys u can pick up

    Never talk yourself down.

Make the above your goal. You may never attain this goal, but aiming high will make it easier to surpass what you think you're capable of.

I started with Karate and Judo I watched boxing with my dad when I was little. I was a good baseball and football player,I dislocated my ankle so there went really my only dream in life to play pro baseball. At 18 I met this guy who was a Judo state champ and did MMA so I wanted to do some type of sports,I got into MMA he moved and my dad took me to the closest boxing gym which was over 2 hours away {boxing is not big in Louisiana} The moment I walked in the gym I fell in love but I was never in shape. Fast forward a few years I moved closer to a different gym and I was offered a promotional contract but again i had no drive to get into fighting shape. I have had 4 major surgeries added 150lbs and now I'm 31 I just droped 120lbs and Had my first pro boxing match at 31 which I lost via tko,I was doing great jabbing and moving and then i hit him with a good right and I got dumb and ran after him he hit me with a hook and i went right on my knees got right up and I either pulled a muscle or tore something and started limping and they stopped it..I am so happy I finally got my chance and I'm not gonna stop training I'm 254 now I am trying to get to 200 i'm only 5'10 so you know the challenge I face. Sorry for the long post I just wanted to let people know if you wanna do something who cares what people say about your age.

Contrary to popular belief, knowing how to fight is more mental than physical. If you learn how to fight and take care of your body, you can get better for a long time.
How well that will translate to conflict with much younger guys is subject to discussion.

Amateur Boxers can box till there 40 years old officially

Boxing is mostly about having the heart to keep training the blood and sweat, while ever your doing boxing you will never stop learning

The absolute WORST case scenario for an older guy is making injury prevention a priority - i.e. avoiding over-training, doing everything to you can to warm-up\cool-down properly, getting massages etc basically all the stuff B-Hop does.
When you compete with younger guys they'll probably have the jump on you in terms of speed and reflexes but there always would have been someone faster than you even in your prime. Being conservative - getting the biggest effect from the smallest effort is what you should strive for in every area of your life anyway this is no different. Concentrate on the mental aspect, after-all, we all know timing beats speed.

I'll always remember a quote I read in Jackie Chan's auto-biography which I think applies to this scenario. Regarding the storytelling philosophy of the characters he strives to create on screen, "Life isn't about winning every battle. It's about winning the ones that COUNT for you."

I also remember a Michael Jackson interview when he was asked about aging and it's effect on his ability to perform he just said something to the effect that it never worries him because Fred Astaire, one of his idols, did his best dancing in his 60's so he believed in 'getting better not getting older'.

"It aint about the mileage, it's the make"

To be honest mate, I'm in almost the exact same situation as you are. Go for it, that's what I'm going to do. :bbb
