QUICK NOTE: In no way, shape, or form, do I believe he should be fighting Pacquiao. Chris Algieri is a very skilled and well-conditioned boxer. He has the length and height to give Pacquiao problems; although Provodnikov was able to close the distance on many occasions. Pacquiao is quicker than Provo, he will close the distance and cut the ring off better and land quicker (not harder) shots than Provo was able to. Algieri is a good boxer, but he has not been proven to be elite. Algieri showed he has heart and composure on the big stage, he has the technical acumen and size to give a man of Pacquiao's stature nightmares. Are we in for an upset? Maybe, but not likely. It'd be a different story if he had power to keep Pacquiao honest. At the moment, I'm going with Pacquiao 117-111. What are your thoughts?
Put it this way, people are saying Pacquiao-Algieri is a worse fight than Maidana-Mayweather but Algieri has Provodnikov on his resume who is far better than anyone Maidana has ever beat.
Algeri is a really good boxer. Did he deserve the PAC fight? No.....but he is a very solid boxer at 147 with a style that would be problematic for a lot of guys at welterweight. Manny should dominate but this kid has nothing to lose. He will go out and try to give the performance of a lifetime...... And it still won't be enough.
Maidana is proven at 147, and has gone 4-1 (3 KOs) at 147 prior to Floyd. Algieri is moving up for the first time and barely scraped by an over rated Provodnikov.
Maidana's best win was C-Level Josesito Lopez. Victor Ortiz and Adrien Broner are D-Level fighters with glass chins and glass hearts.
Hard to classify fighters like that. Broner was definitely over rated, but in no way is he a bum. He clearly under estimated Maidana and couldn't handle the weight difference.
