:rofl Ward-Rodriguez: "Folks, this was not a bad night for boxing as this joint was jumping and almost full with 4,158 in attendance, and the live gate pulling in 277,374.00 in ticket sales." http://www.eurweb.com/2013/11/ringside-update-ward-delivers-a-boxing-clinic-against-rodriguez/#yurAX1Hfi6AmpejC.99" Let's compare that with tonight's figures.
You don't believe Golovkin is a massive star in his homeland? Can't disagree with you on this one. Twitter? lol. Golovkin fans are a much more sophisticated breed that. I don't even think Golovkin posts on his account. When he's not bashing people's heads in for fun, he's more interested in spending his free time reading Dostoevsky and watching art house cinema. lol Monaco? The only prince I see attending Ward's fights is his gangster dwarf manager. lol Isn't Golovkin sponsored by NIKE? And Golovkin's doing all right. Despite only been over in the US a short while and speaking limited English, he's getting better or comparatively equal viewing figures than home-grown Olympic golden boys who've lived there their entire life.
Ward will take his head off!!, Ward is younger and has fought far better competition, and styles ...winning them all relatively with eaee!
Ward is an odd place right now in his career. He is having legal difficulties with his promoter and he hasn't fought in a while. At 168, there really isn't a great incentive for Froch or Kessler, the two other cash cows in the division, to face him because they can make the same amount of money facing each other. 7 pounds above him he has some good challenges in Stevenson, Kovalev, Cleverly, Cloud, and Hopkins. It might make sense for him to move up to 175. On the other hand, GGG still has work to do at 160. If it is true that he comes in to camp at 167, he can still make the division weight limit easy enough, and there is no reason why he should jump up in weight, unless the money is too good to pass up. I would prefer to see him clean out the division. I don't think we'll see GGG and Ward anytime soon is my point.
The unstoppable force (GGG) versus the immovable object (Ward). Tempestuousness against the ever calm and collected. They have styles made for each other. I still laugh when people say “Who has GGG beat?!” – his amateur career is ridiculously good, and I’ve always thought from the amateur fights I’ve seen that he was tailor made for the pros. You can only beat whichever can they put in front of you… And he dismantled Geale + Macklin who are solid B grade fighters at the weight. Through out the fight games history, fighters have “defended” differently. Some use a specific blocking style, some movement – be it head or foot, some are just tricky due to simple biomechanics. He might not be the philly shell/shoulder roll user that seems to be fashionable amongst the P4P elite (Money, ) or a master of the dark arts (Ward, Hopkins) but boy can he close that ring off FAST. And he moves his head and feet just enough that it rarely gives the opposition time to reset. He also has a greater reach than Ward too, so I’m not sure how much the weight difference will really effect an imbalance of size. He has a style that sells tickets, simply put. And I wouldn’t be too quick to bet against him in a Ward match up. If he does fight twice before the year is out, then I’m not sure how long he can be denied the big time.
