GGG the real deal, can he be an ATG one day?

It's possible but I doubt it, GGG is exciting for the MW division but him and everytop MW still have to prove themself. Props to GGG for taking the first steps but honestly at the rate he's going he won't get enough names to be HOF let alone ATG.

 

If he continues to dominate, unifies, racks up a list of defences then gets some good wins at smw then yeah he can be. The only person I see beating him is ward if he gets active again.

 

Way to early to tell. I think... if his prime lasts through age 38 or so like Martinez, then he may well become a HOFer.

I honestly kind of doubt he makes ATG. Most fighters who have the talent in this era dont make my ATG due to business climate/decisions. There have been a *lot* of great fighters in the past century, and they used to fight each other. In todays climate that doesnt happen. I dont have a single active fighter on my ATG list, and would not be surprised if I never do.

edit: except BHOP. Some part of my brain doesnt want to accept he is still fighting, but he is. And he is still good. BHOP possibly last guy to make ATG.

 

I actually think Canelo has a good chance as well if you listen to those who saw them spar they say both gave a good account of themselves, GGG himself says Canelo was his toughest in ring. Style wise I think it'll be a good fight.

Ultimately he has to face the comp to do it, if the guys who are rated around him at MW don't fight him an he won't move up to face better guys who will it'll he hard to get there.

 

Didn't know til today he was 32, but in my book he is on his way to the HOF. Fighters fight until they are older nowadays so with 5 or 6 more good years the sky is the limit with this guy. Only problem might be none of the top fighters will want to fight him. I know I wouldn't. Great interview after the fight too.

 

Given his age, he needs to leave MW soon because there is no one there anymore. (Assuming Cotto won't fight him which is very likely)

To be an ATG, I think he needs some scalps like Ward, Froch, Adonis. I STILL can't get over the GGG / Pirog fight not happening... I was really looking forward to that.

 

He's been trying to get the top names for the past 4 yrs.

He's the CHAMPION of the MW division and he's 12-0 (12KOs) in world title fights.

I think he's already HOF bound.

If he can unify with Soliman in November, then get a couple more solid defenses.....ie BJ Saunders, Chudinov, Sturm, Canelo, Korobov.......before moving up to SMW and beating the titlists there.......

Remaining undefeated, while running his record to 40-0 (38KO) undefeated in title fights, with 23 title wins........he may become top 2-3 ATG MW/SMW:think:think

 

His style will age very well because of how efficient and patient he is in the ring, and his greatest strengths are the kind that stick around. I think he can do this for at least another 5 years.

As Xelloss mentioned, it's the business climate that will be his biggest obstacle to becoming an ATG. He may well do enough to make it by modern standards, but the old school guys at middleweight are resume monsters.

I do think he'll end up being a HOF fighter for sure.

 

Do you think he would make HOF if he retired today or do you mean after a few more fights?

He is the number 1 contender at Middleweight and will arguably pick up a few more titles at 160 lbs before moving up and hopefully having the same success.

 

I don't think he can fight off the back foot ,same as Loma.

GGG isn't anything special ,in fact none of his opposition will ever be in the HOF keep fighting bums.

 

ATG?..... Iron Chin.....Enormous Power in Both hands....Absolute Class with ability to Dominate a Division.....Think GGG is well on the way to being one.!!!!
