Will Canelo Alvarez be like Fernando Vargas? Peak early, decline early?

    Alvarez isn't as skilled as Vargas was at his best but I think he might have a bit more about him mentally, as well as a better chin. Different kinds of fighters, really.

    I lot of Vargas' decline was due to back problems. And he used roids and had an extremely unhealthy lifestyle in his downtime. It's not really a valid comparison.

    Yeah, although probably a combination of both. Vargas was a pretty handy all-rounder until he copped that flogging off Trinidad. Alvarez is a bit of a plodder, in comparison.

    Bull**** about him being "fed" to De La Hoya and Trinidad too early. He beat Winky Wright and Ike Quartey who were just as good as Trinidad and De la Hoya, then he beat Ross Thompson who was a very very good fighter and champion at the time. It was nobody left for him to fight at 154, so he took on Trinidad. Alot of people forget that after the knockouts Vargas made a strong comeback then Trinidad low blowed him and he was done for the rest of the fight.

    I honestly think that injuries after coming OFF the steroids after the De La Hoya fight ruined him, not those fighters. After he had that back injury he was never the same.

    Are you kidding about the chin thing? Vargas went LATE in both his fights with TRINIDAD and DLH, pulled his ass off the canvas eating a left hook from the depths of hell from Tito and made a fight out of it. Canelo has a good chin based on what? His wobbly legs versus Cotto's little brother? Or maybe against Floyd's impressive punching power?

    I have made that analogy a numb of times....and I can see the pattern ....CAnelo's fight as he fight elite opponents have gotten less and less exciting
