I also thought he was probably just shaking his head in frustration or embarrassment. But he was clearly unable to continue the way he was trying to collect himself, and the ref made the right call. Also he hadn't really been taking any punishment up till that point, which is what you usually see when a fighter chooses to not continue. The third round was his "gamest" round, in my opinion.

Why pay attention to immature fans who go around calling good fighters quitters?

most boxers do not want to quit, that is obvious..they want to hear the final bell even if they are being pounded over and over...the ref did a good stoppage here as i thought it could of gotten worse even if Geale did not want to stop it. He may have complain afterwards about the stoppage but did not really argue with it when the fight was stopped in the ring.

Relax. I don't mean he wasn't getting hit. But he wasn't being worn down, like he was ready to quit. He was very game in the third round.

What I took from it was that the count was on 8, and the ref was asking him to step forward.

Whether he intended to stop the fight or not, when ref asks you to step forward and you shake your head theres really only one way to interpret that. I was surprised, because the round was almost over and his eyes looked clear.

i think if he would have taken his time getting up he could have shaken off the cobwebs and made it to the bell. either way he was getting knocked out sooner than later.

Geale's shaking of the head reminded me of Morales.

He'd had enough, he was done.

    In Pac III, you mean?

Nah, that was specifically directed @ Erik's dad in the corner. "Sorry pop, I just can't..." - there was very little ambiguity there.

Geale's did seem more like "ah you stupid ****", mad at himself. Or it could've been "I can't deal with any more of that" - but either way, it was an inner monologue, not apparently for anyone's benefit (including the ref)

You could be right about that with Morales; I'd need to go watch it again.

Either way, both guys were beaten men by the time they shook their heads and there was no point in them fighting on; they weren't going to turn things around.

Disgraceful quit job from Geale after he was talking smack about Macklins performance against Golovkin.

I thought Geale was shaking his head no because he had enough.
I don't blame him one bit, if that is the case. There were 9 more rounds of punishment left.

I was kind of surprised, too. But, I think Geale quit and I think he made the right call by quitting because staying in there and getting his brains was not going to help him.
