Why aren't some of the amazing HW amateurs turning pro?

    Cammarelle, Russo, Tervel Pulev, Majidov etc turn pro? Russo might be better suited for CW, but still.... He wouldn't do bad in the HW division.

    All of these guys would beat Wilder in their pro debuts with ease, Russo is only 5'11 and he whooped Wilders ass in the amateurs! Majidov would prob leave Wilder unconscious for minutes.

    Tervel Pulev is too small for a HW and does not possess his brother`s mentality and dedication.

    Cammarelle is not that young anymore (33/34) and has a job as a policeman next to boxing, so I don't see him turning pro.

    You need a promoter with big pockets willing to take a HW and promote them. Remember Ohner took on Solis in Germany, paid him millions and probably never made his money back. As an investment, promoting a boxer sounds like a high risk proposition.

    To be fair, wasnt Wilder about 1 year into his boxing career when that happened?

    He had gone pro within 3 years of his first stepping in a gym, so it has to be less than that.

    he didnt set foot in a boxing gym until October 2005.

    So it was a bit under 3 years....still pretty impressive to do what he did with so little boxing.

    Wasn't really got beat by anyone half decent in the amateurs

    Only got the bronze medal because he got the luckiest draw of all time and only had to beat two fat useless short Africans to get the medal, and he or a gift against one of them

    To the original question, some fighters just like the easier life of an amateur. They generally have a nice pay cheque form the government and can make money from WSB while still claiming not to be professional.

    Beinga full pro can be wrought with difficulties. Bad promotion and if you get injured,you're screwed.
    Some might just be waiting for the right offer.
