Should Floyd Mayweather be stripped of his Junior Middleweight title?

Sugar Ray Leonard did it in 1998, that's why they approved it. The WBC president said Mayweather has shown his loyalty to the organisation for a long time and as such, would like to show back their loyalty to him by allowing him to defend both belt on fight night.

The problem is ... 10oz gloves at 154 right ? Maybe it's a scheme to KO Maidana.

 

Is the problem that he's defending both titles or is the problem he's defending it vs Maidana. Realistically who would you want to see fight for the Lineal JMW Title Canelo has shown to be better than #3/4 in the division and is clearly #2 and Mayweather clearly beat Canelo so who should get the chance

 

How is he defending a JMW title when he's not fighting at JMW, you dummy?

 

The rules state that in a JMW bout, neither fighter can weigh more than 154 lbs. at the weight in. So as long as both fighters come in at 154 or lower, it can be sanctioned as a JMW bout.

 

I'm kind of indifferent to it don't really care one-way or another who at JMW should be legitimately fighting for the title. Maidana gets a lot of flack but is a good fighter although I get the he's not a JMW argument but it's not like he can't easily make weight.

If there is not a mandatory challenger out there to currently fight for Floyd's WBC Jr.Middleweight belt then literally there shouldn't be an issue of whether he should be stripped of the belt or not.

Earlier this year when negotiations were in place for the at the time proposed fight between Canelo Alverez and Miguel Cotto for the PPV March 8th date it was believed that the WBC Jr.Middleweight belt, which had just been won by Floyd over Canelo a few months before, would be on the line meaning of course Floyd would thus end up vacating the belt before the intended fight took place. But then it fell through when Cotto of course received an offer to fight Sergio Martinez for his Ring Magazine World Middleweight title at 160 (actuallly an agreed upon catchweight of 159!) and Cotto accepted it took the Martinez fight and the rest of course was historical victory for Miguel.

So with all of that unfolding as it did it would appear to had made no sense for the WBC to order Floyd, boxings big money maker, to vacate their 154 lb belt either then or now especially since there is no mandatory challenger to challenge for it. Besides Floyd already had vacated the WBA portion of the Jr.Middleweight championship so that the winner of the title eliminator between the current belt holder Erislandy Lara and former belt holder Austin Trout could lay claim to it upon conclusion of their outing. Remember that Floyd was actually the unified WBA/WBC(Ring Magazine) Champion at 154 (and thus still the WBC(Ring Magazine 154 lb champ) before disbanding the two alphabet belts, just like he's currently also the unified WBC/WBA(Ring Magazine) champion at 147.

 

He should be stripped if he is not going to defend it against a rated 154lb fighter. This coming in at 148 is b.s .

 

Maidana came in at 165 last fight, that's way past 154
