I could easily go one better -I can quote you discussing the Joe Cal quote with Loudon at great length on this forum. Yet you still deny it exists, after discussing it yourself for days on end. Why are you denying something exists that you have previously confirmed exists on several occasions? Do you have memory problems? Thers no other reason for you completely forgetting what you wrote in the past.

the calzaghe quote about jones has 100% relevance to this thread on jones/calzaghe, don't be a berk and pretend it isnt relevant.

The echols comment is a metaphor for YOU ALONE running away from me, and has NOTHING to with jones/calzaghe. If you dont understand that a metaphor is very different from a fact is then perhaps you are forgiven.

Calzaghe himself admits in numerous interviews that it wasn't a prime version of Roy he fought that night, so how can you argue against Calzaghe? This forum is a mecca for trolls. Roy was the man throughout Calzaghe's career and Joe wanted him on his resume. Respect to Joe for even saying it wasn't the real Roy in their fight, not many fighters would say it, that's for sure.

I agree. Boxing and especially the HW division were based in the US (maybe even monopolized) throughout the history. All of the "big 4" organizations and many other things being US based show that as well. He had to go to the US in order to prove himself. Of course, he then moved back to Germany.

As for Golovkin, yes he lives in Germany. I wouldn't say that it's about being "a real world champion", I wouldn't get carried away with that, he doesn't necessarily need to fight specifically in the US to face the best opponents. Sturm's promoter didn't give him the opportunities he deserved. Another thing is the marketability. Both Golovkin and K2 make more profit now than if he stayed in Germany, because in Germany the things work a little bit differently.

 

agreed. with the retirement of lennox lewis, the way the US networks cooled their interest in the HW division, and the rise of the klitschkos since then, it changed the playing field

but with regards to felix sturm, its dismissive to say his "promoter didn't give him the opportunities he deserved"
Oscar gave him perhaps the single biggest leg-up onto the world stage any fighter has ever had, and he was on the first plane back to Germany

Jones was really made to look like a fool in this fight. He had no answer for Calzaghe's style and taunts.

Im not denying something exists. I have seen the quote and have mentioned what it goes on to say. What I am questioning is how you have taken one section that suits an agenda and not the whole link, which is why I have asked for the link and which is what you have ducked.

Roy could hold his head high after this fight..

He came out and went for an early KO, but came up short. He also fought through a nasty cut, with a corner that knew nothing about stopping a cut but still fought through it, denied to have the fight stopped. He was completely outmatched, but showed a lot of heart.

One could argue that he looked more foolish showboating Lebedev and then getting put to sleep seconds later.

We've had 9 pages of baiting and excuse making, as per normal.

But everyone knows how Joe's career went down.


He was happy with Frank W for 95% of his career.

He was proud of his WBO defences and wanted to surpass Rocky's record.


There was nothing wrong with any of the above.

Apart from the fact, that defending the WBO that many times against the guys he fought, prevented him from gaining bigger fights earlier on in his career, especially as he wouldn't build a profile in the U.S.


We have the same threads every month, and I always get drawn into them, because some of the guys on here aren't trolls, they're actually deluded, and they need a reality check.

Joe didn't miss big fights because guys were afraid of him, he missed big fights earlier on in his career, because he brought NOTHING to the table.

HBO, Roy and Hopkins etc, weren't interested in a relatively unknown, WBO champ, who fought at a different weight.

Why would they have been?


How many times has all of this being discussed?


He's on record as saying he wasn't chasing Roy in 1999.

He also said in 2003, that unless he got paid the 'Crown Jewels' he wouldn't want to risk it against Roy.

He said he knew what his capabilities were.

Again, he also never made any attempt to fight in the U.S. or at LHW to force the issue, even though the opportunity was there.

It wasn't an accident that he fought the guys who he fought in the WBO rankings.

He wasn't hard done by.

He was more than happy to fight those guys.


You didn't need to be Columbo to work out what was happening back then.


In 2004, Joe said he wanted nothing to do with Tarver, because in his opinion, he'd done nothing apart from beat a faded version of Roy.

Skip three years to 2007, and again he didn't want Roy, because in his opinion, it was pointless.

Then the following year, he reiterated that Roy was past his best.


What happened?


The guy who knew what his capabilities were in 2003, picked the phone up and personally called Roy to make the fight. He even accepted a 50/50 deal, with a rematch clause.


Again, you didn't need to be Columbo to piece together what was happening.




SO THIS IS FOR ALL OF THE GUYS ON THIS THREAD, WHO ARE HARD OF THINKING.




Joe wanted nothing to do with Roy Jones in his prime.


He never believed he could have beaten him.


He only caught a plane to the U.S. after it was safe to do so, after Roy had been knocked out twice, over four years earlier.


Nobody cares what happened in Nov, 2008, just like how nobody cares what happened in Dec, 2009.


Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver gave Roy a boxing lesson.


They don't get much credit for it, so why should Joe?




Roy would have spanked Joe in his 20's.

I know it, and every intelligent fan who's watched both guys over the years, also know it.


He'd have spanked him, and he wouldn't have received an ounce of credit for doing so.
