Neither Sergio or Cotto tip the 160... They were below the 160 max....let's be clear anything between 155 and 160 IS A MW fight!!! I think what they are trying to limit is Cotto fighting a SMW the night of the fight after hydration...GGG is not one balloon in weight the night of the fight , but he usually hovers around 165-168....Cotto was still under the 160 on fight night against Sergio
To be fair though that's not Golovkins fault. I'm a massive fan of both fighters but I don't like the thought of Roach having input into how/ when they should fight etc.
By Roach saying that they're only willing to face Golovkin at 155-154, pretty much confirms they were fully confident in knowing the extent of Martinez's health. They took that fight knowing they had a physical advantage over Sergio. I wouldn't be suprised if Sergio's team gave them full information about the extent of his health in order to make the fight with Cotto rather than risk having to fight a legit MW like Golovkin. All that said, Golovkin-Cotto is a mismatch, whether it's 160 or 154. If Gennady weighed in at 154, he'd likely still rehydrate to his usual ring weight, which is a bit under 170 anyways. Cotto is a name, but I'm not sure how much credit Golovkin would get for destroying Cotto. Sure it be interesting to see how Golovkin handles Cotto's speed and boxing ability for the first few rounds, but he'd quickly overwhelm the smaller man who's been destroyed a few times already by Margarito & Pacquiao. Cotto will not risk losing out on the Alvarez fight, which I think will result in atleast 2 fights between the two latino warriors.
Or, they could just think Golovkin is a bigger man than Martinez...thus the size advantage Martinez had over Cotto wasn't as extreme as GGG's over Cotto's. Roach was also very adamant on Martinez being a great athlete, but not a great boxer and that was his main reason to believe he can win that fight. He also said Chavez hurt Martinez and Cotto hits harder than Chavez, I'm sure that gave him confidence.
The guy people are calling the lineal champ won't fight another champ in the same weight class unless he can drain him? Amazing. Couldn't make it up.
Not sure if I'd be OK with GGG coming down, he says he can make weight but these catchweights are getting ridiculous. Let's see if GGG can do it.
Only a worthless piece of trash would call a professional boxer gay. **** right off you dumbass piece of crap.
You only have to watch previous episodes of 24/7 to know Cotto is 1/2 gay. I expect him to come out of the closet any time soon. His favorite color is pink for gosh sakes.
155 GGG still dangerous cus hes willing to go down to 154 for big money fights, he said. Cotto goes thru with this win or loose hes the man. i wont be suprise if he takes the fight.
Too much to lose for Cotto to make this fight......EVEN at 155. Why he jeopardize his May clash with Canelo, vs GGG, when he could take much easier fights vs Rubio, Bradley, or another WBC rated fighter. He doesnt HAVE to fight a mandate or unification fight first......he's got 18 months from the time he won his title to SIGN for either a unification or mandatory, and I don't think Bob wants to let his last fight owning Cotto to just throw him away for short $$$. A GGG clash, might be PPV worthy as opposed to Bradley, but if Bob pits Bradley and Cotto, he earns his commision from both fighters, and can begin Bradley's career at LMW. Talk is cheap. It's Cotto vs Bradley in Oct/Nov, then his mandatory Rubio or maybe Lemiuex in Feb and then Canelo in May...... Only fight they might NOT make is the mandatory of Lemieux vs Rubio, b/c it's not a $$$ fight and might be too risky like the GGG fight. Guarantee it's Bradley at 155 next time Cotto fights. Then he's off to Vegas as the Mayweather Pacqioua co-main for $10+ mil vs Canelo.:roll::roll:
If the weight LIMIT is below 160 and above 154, it's a catchweight fight. The middleweight limit is 160lbs. How hard is that for you to understand, Scarf?
