I know what you posted last summer.

The X-factor in this fight, in this training camp I should say: John David Jackson knows BHop more than any of BHop's opponent's trainer he's faced in the last decade.

Kovalev stops BHop on his feet in the championship rounds. Messy fight.

I think Hopkins decision. I think kovalev gets dropped and Hopkins dominated the championship rounds

Hopkins will lose this fight if it happens it's just about the younger fighter having to much power

I won't be surprised if it turns out to be a massive mismatch, but I often underestimated Hopkins' abilities and won't make that mistake again.

So Kovalev by late TKO, in a close fight

Massive respect for B-Hop taking this fight. A real warrior in an age of divas.

i think either kovalev wipes him out in lerss than five, or hopkins wins a decision. if the fight is held in america, there is no way kovalev could win a decision. hopkins will know that, and just try and survive. hold out for a robbery.

    I hope it's Hopkins

But at his age, and Kovalev's punching power... i really do worry for him

The combination of Kovalev and Jackson (whose inside knowledge will be invaluable in preparing for Hopkins) is just too much for me to pick the old master.

It doesn't matter that Hopkins has been "too old" for 10 years. Eventually, there's a bridge too far to cross, and for Hopkins, that's going to be Kovalev. A Kovalev stoppage, possibly via corner retirement, wouldn't surprise me.

This all depends on how much he will be able to land from his aggression to seriously trouble Hopkins and force him to look his age. The last fighter that really made Hopkins look his age was Calzaghe simply because of his nonstop punching, speed and awkward style. Kovalev is very active but lacks speed and awkwardness to confuse and force Hopkins look his age. While Dawson clearly beat Hopkins based on his style of fighting all alone, he hardly made him look old and desperate like Calzaghe did. Dawson is a cold fighter, he will pose and wait in there most of the time therefore forcing Hopkins to initiate attacks and end up countered by the younger Dawson.

It's great to have stamina and power but that's not the only two attributes required to beat Hopkins. Just take a look at Pavlik, he had insane stamina, a granite chin and power to boot, he wasn't able to do crap against Hopkins. No, I'm NOT comparing Pavlik to Kovalev, just comparing the two attributes they share(stamina and power). Kovalev will initiate most of the attacks and leave his self open for counters from Hopkins all night in my opinion therefore ending up losing rounds. Hopkins literally feeds off aggressive fighters with power, chin and stamina, it's a style he made a career dismantling.

The only way I see Kovalev winning this is if he literally bombards Hopkins, overwhelms him and forces him to look 50 by breaking him down and not allowing him to do what he once was able to in his younger years. Based on styles all alone, Hopkins eats Kovalev' style up as he proved with far better aggressive fighters his entire career.

Pavlik, Tarver, Pascal x2, Trinidad and DLH all had power and proved their power fighting top notch opponents. A 50 year old Hopkins is by far and away the biggest challenge of Kovalev's entire career.

Depends on how Kovalev deals with the John Ruiz 'Jab and Grab' style Hopkins now uses. If Kovalev has an answer for that we will get a savage KO. Hopkins is going to try and spoil the fight and hold, clinch, grab, wrestle, fake low blows, and headbutt like he did against Calzaghe.

If Pascal can put Hopkins down I know Kovalev can.

as soon as kovalev starts landing it's over.

if hopkins can avoid him for 12 rounds then cool.... but i don't think he can.

    Couple of things

How many times as a pro has Kovalev fought a 12 rounder or past the 6th rd ?

And who hits Hopkins flush ?

No reasonable boxing fan can give fifteen seconds of a quarter minute one third round to Sergey Kovalev against Bernard Hopkins based on boxing IQ, Know-How, stance, mobility, smoothness, footwork, head movement, shoulder movement combined, feiting with arms and feet, controlling the tempo, sliding, slipping, firing withering right hands and short left hooks out of nowhere, measuring space with jabs and rights, mixing up shots according to law, ducking, dodging shots, controlling the ring space and the clock. The only thing Sergey Kovalev has going for him is strenght, weight-lifting strength, raw muscular thickness and stamina. Hopkins has lean long muscles and has perfect muscular weight to do with reflexes and handspeed and footspeed and flexibility, he has tons of stamina too.
