shame, because reid don't do longevity and consistency despite being a better fighter than joe prime versus prime, so he would probably have lost the rematch.

 

Reid isn't/ wasn't better than Calzaghe prime v prime.

Reid fought out of his skin in their initial fight whilst Calzaghe injured his hand and laboured to a very close win.

Outside of beating one of the worst world champions in Vicenzo Nardiello and beating Wharton Reid did sweet F.A at world level.

Top 10 fighter but never near the best.

 

yeah he was prime to prime. he was outlanding joe for percentage landed to thrown in the fight, for instance. That indicates to me better skills, but maybe Joe missing a higher percentage TO YOU means Joe had better skills, in a weird topsy turvy logic. BUt I don't live in your topsy turvy land, so Reid was more skilled.

nevertheless as I said reid never shared joes consistency nor ability to fight/prepare 120%, and he would thus probably lose the rematch. Joe also had a better tank of energy than Reid.

notwithstanding there would be no rematch for reasons of cowardzaghe.

don't give me this damaged hand crap. enzo never lets his son go into a fight less than 120% fit. Joe threw more than Reid, so I don't know how he managed to throw more with damaged hands, wat a load of crock. He simply landed less effectively, that's what Joe always did against anyone who was above pretty good.

 

Would have been a good fight when it mattered. Reid in his prime was a damn good fighter but his career didn't match his ability.

Won the title too early, hadn't even settled into a style yet. Would go from being a slugger in one fight to a boxer in the next and like an idiot tried to outbox the rangy counter puncher Malinga, his tactics for that fight were an absolute joke.

The fights with Calzaghe and Ottke proved he belonged among the best in his era at 168lbs. The fight with Branco after Calzaghe was stupid match making. Reid had not fought for well over a year and to stick him in with such a tall awkward fighter was always a recipe for disaster. He was then avoided for the rest of his prime until Ottke.

Calzaghe was the better fighter not sure if Reid could have repeated what he did in the first fight, he was so erratic as a fighter.

 

I actually had Reid winning the fight but it was close. Calzaghe underestimated him.

Super Joe would have beaten him in a rematch, Reid does nothing better than Calzaghe. After Calzaghe Reid lost to every top fighter he fought and the fights he did have he stunk the joints out, repeated fouling and complaining.

 

that bit I agree with in theory, likely robin wouldn't have raised his game again 2nd time round.

but like I said in practice, it wouldn't have happened, cowardzaghe being the reason.

 

Calzaghe would of beaten him again no doubt

Break down their skills fighter for fighter and people won't be saying well Reid landed a better % in their one fight.

well you should agree with the stats, not disagree with them because of a nickname, shame on you for letting your head go. reid was marginally better on the night and you should admit so.

despite being behind on % blows landed, joe was busy enough to get a draw (ie retain his lesser world title), so its not important to chase the argument anyway.

the salient point is this - reid wasn't consistent enough to raise his game 2nd time round, joe would have won the rematch that he was too cowardzaghe to take. Theres a paradox worthy of Lewis Carroll in that somewhere.
