Kovalev is neither a speedy-volume-power-puncher nor a rangy fighter which IMO are the main attributes to beat Hopkins.

You have to suffocate Hopkins with punches to beat him. Not let him to do his tricks. Kovalev is tailor made for Hopkins. Easy fight for Hopkins. Stevenson has better chances to beat Hopkins because he has a higher volume of punches, better punching combinations and better speed than Kovalev.

ko4clev looked pretty fast against clev, although tbf clev is shite in terms of world titles, he should never have had a title above british/commonwealth in the first place.

though at least clev tries, I will give him that.

Timed Silakh perfectly and KOed him.

Agnew KOed with a "jab" to the body or maybe a very, very short left hook.

Caparello KOed with right to the body.

Hopkins appears to be an interesting opponent but I expect we'll hear a lot of excuses for Hopkins not winning after the fight.

In retrospect, not really. Two wins over JT who lost all big fights by KO other than the two Hopkins fights, which were close and controversial.

What hopkins is or isnt as far as weigh classes are concerned has nothing to do with the comparison of pavlik and kovalev. Kovalev is a natural light heavyweight and has campaigning there for a long time, and knocking guys out there for a long time. Pavlik jumped two weight classes to fight at LHW, where he hadn't been before. That's the key difference.

I think the same. Pavlik had many advantages to Kovalev, physical advantages like wingspan, stiff jab, hell of a right hand, recuverative powers, huge KO ratio, undefeated and MW Champion of the whole wide world, long lean muscled like it should be... Sure Sergey has better lateral movement and in short spaces, punches short and compact but I can't see him not taking fast combos out of nowhere as he tries to remain consistent where the old fox is loosing em up and streching em out in a razmatazz of pure improvational slick counter-attacks. I say Hop-Pavlik II just a lil bit closer due to Hop's age.

If Hopkins does pull this off though would it be fair to say he's the best boxer of this era?
