Re-watched Floyd vs Maidana today. 3 thoughts

He wouldn't fight the same way against Khan. You should know that. I haven't seen 2 Floyd fights where he fights the same. Ever.

If Garcia, Collazo, and everyone else can land on Khan. I'm pretty sure the most accurate puncher in the sport can too.

Floyd UD Khan 117-111. You're not gonna outboxed the guy.

 

Porters wins over malinaggi and alexander are better than all of maidanas wins, paulie could easily have drawed or beaten broner and alexander hammered maidana, he could be ahead of thurman, khan could be in there somehwere aswell as he has a better win than brook and if you take in past achievemts.
Plus hes been in the division a bit before other guys, khan alexander and maybe guys like matteyse could easily get ahead of him in another fight or two

Garcia accepted getting hammered with one twos to deliver something big, colloazo tried something similar banking on getting inside taking a lot of punches do you really think mayweather would do something like that

 

Garcia and Collazo took those risks because they were inferior boxers, and didn't have the boxing ability to hang with Khan.

Not the case with FMJ

 

Thats what i mean its a completely different set of fighters and fight plans, the better pure boxers like judah and malinaggi didn land as often and were hammered obviously floyd is another animal but its closer. khan always lands would be interesting to see how mayweather reacts.

 

Floyd shouldn't retire. He's fighting at a very high level and still undefeated. Anyone can lose but he hasn't in a professional career that began in 1996.

He's faced very solid opposition and has a hall of fame resume which has to be respected. Floyd has gotten slower....he is less mobile and he is getting touched up a little more than he used to.

But before he was fighting with a set of fresh, 20 something legs that allowed him to coast his way to easy onside points victories. He used LESS skill and advantages with superior physical gifts to avoid exchanges and any resemblance of "risk". Everyone harped on him for being a "boring" or "safety-first" type of fighter.

Now we are are getting the full scope of Floyd's greatness. His skills are on full display utilizing some top notch defense blended with superb counter offense that resembles a prime James "Lights Out" Toney.

He's a pocket fighter now.....he still has the ability to use his legs to gain some control of distance but at 37 or 38 he isn't doing that 12 rounds. Floyd has proven he can fight, dig deep and still maintain his composure.

I'm excited about the rematch....it was a very close fight and I can see how some think Marcos won. I thought Floyd did enough to win but this was Floyd's toughest fight to date. Both from a physical standpoint and from a tactical one. Floyd wasn't really prepared for Marcos' increased work rate and awkwardness. He has something to work from going into this rematch so it will be interesting to see if Marcos can improve on his original performance.

 

Floyd is going to box his ears off in the rematch

 

1) I dont like Floyd but I thought he clearly EDGED Maidana by 2 rounds. Still, it was unimpressive for a fight that should have been easier. Also, why doesnt Floyd EVER finish fights? Poor Lennox was crucified for not fighting guys in their prime and the guy finished fights at nearly a 90% success rate.

2) Floyd didnt allow Maidana to use the right gloves. While I am not going to say with the right gloves Maidana would win, it shows more cowardice from Floyd in wanting to disable his opponents as much as possible. Prize fighters are payed handsomely and if he has an issue with the risk of injury then he needs to retire.

3) I think Floyd is an all time great but his legacy will be remembered as a coward unless he finally faces Manny or a dangerous fighter like GGG. I hated Lennox Lewis at the time but I recognized this guy is a top 10 HW of all time. Floyd would get passed around by Leonard, Hagler, Hearns. Its embarassing to even see him wear TBE hats.

 

LMBO at people trying to convince themselves that it was a close fight. Aint nobody in their right mind even believes that. FMJ outclassed Maidana and won at least 9 or 10 rounds. Fools tryna act like swinging at the air all night scores points.

 

Garcia and Collazo were willing to get eatin up by Khan to get in range for power shots, do you really think defensive Floyd will get into that type of fight? Yes he is the most accurate but what will those shots do? We can joke all day with Khans chin but we know Floyd doesn't have the power to hurt him

 

I think Floyd would make Khan look silly, he isn't smart enough or anywhere near accurate enough. Most of Khans shots hit gloves/arms and he struggles on the inside big time. I actually think Floyd would stop him, his chin is so bad. Pacman is more suited to Khans style but PAC would wipe the floor with Khan too.

Khan throws the same combinations, he would be easy to time. Watch videos of Khan on youtube when he is on the mitts or pads. Over the last few years it's the same combinations he throws over and over. Just ask Danny Garcia, he watched the tapes then BANG!!!

I really do like Khan, I used to hate the guy but you have to respect him he wants to fight anyone. He fought Maidana when nobody else wanted him, Peterson is a proven cheat, he wanted Bradley but Bradley never(promotional issues), Kotelnik is a good win as is Judah and Malignaggi. I just think the guy is shot, his chin is awful and he struggles to recover.

I would like Porter to beat Brook then see Khan v Brook.

 

Per the punch stats I think the difference waz like 6 punches..my question is who backed who up more?

 

Agree with alot of this apart from Khans shots do land, he throws alot of combos and not all will land.

Don't agree that he is shot unless we have different ideas on what shot means.

 

It was a close but clear win for Mayweather.

 

Adrien Broner was the WBA Champion when Maidana fought him. In addition to that, he already proved that he belongs in there when he was the first since 2007(De La Hoya and Hatton) to give Mayweather trouble.
