Didnt GGG said he could make 154? why not fight Cotto at 155 for a CAREER PAYDAY?

That's true, this isn't even some official demand. This is idle talk about a hypothetical fight.

I could see Cotto announcing he's done at middleweight and challenging Golovkin to a 140 pound showdown, but Golovkin would have to first convince him that he can barely walk and has lost vision in 1 eye.

Like most I think that catchweights are utter BS especially when fighting for a lineal title, but if Golovkin / Sanchez feels they can make the weight healthily, then sure, they should take it... it's the kind of breakthrough fight Golovkin needs.

So Cotto won the 160 Belt and now he has to defend this Belt against fighters that are allowed to come into the rind with a maximum weight of 160, where is the problem??

 

If the title fight is for the 160 lb. title, it should be fought at 160................154 is Jr. middleweight................

That's just it. I don't think anyone here (spare for a few) is "excusing" the Cotto catchweight demand.

It's just being realistic about the situation. To think otherwise is to not be realistic.

When it comes to boxing, believe me, I would love to be wrong more often than correct.

 

I hate to break it to people like this but if boxing was unpaid volunteer work, none of these world level pros would be doing it.

As for your opening lines, Cotto fought at MW against Sergio. They both weighed above 154 pounds. That is a Middleweight bout. Shocking how some either don't know or choose to ignore how weight divisions in boxing work... Then your next line after the first obviously is regarding Mayweather. Hate to break it to you, but he has thrice fought above 147 pounds, thus in the junior middleweight division, and fought at the contracted full 154 pounds in his first two fights in the division (Oscar '07, Cotto '12).

 

Cotto won't fight Golovkin, Golovkin won't fight Ward, Ward won't fight Kovalev, etc. etc. etc.

One must be realistic about it all.

Boxing is a business, before anything else, with tons of mouths to feed around each fight. Unfortunately for fans, this is the truth... yet one that many seem to blatantly ignore or outright deny and then only bring up when it suits their argument.

 

this isnt going to happen until after cotto-drainelo. just a hunch.

if cotto loses to drainelo, he can still fight ggg. same thing with drainelo.

now, if cotto or drainelo fights ggg first and gets brutally kod, which is highly probable, then the fight between them loses meaning.


while cotto-drainelo is being negotiated, theftjr has no opponent.

so, ggg vs. theftjr (already fought cotto and drainelo) at 154 is the best available fight that can be made.

theftjr can then defend his belts (ww/sww) and ggg, his belt at mw.

so now theftjr can hold 3 div belts at the same time if he wins.

belts are already ****ed up, wont matter anymore who holds what and how many.

 

they didn't even offer the 155...............
