People before were saying Hopkins was avoiding Kovalev and taking the easier fight in Stevenson. Now he's called out and signed to fight Kovalev he's avoiding Stevenson.

It's pretty obvious no matter what Hopkins does or who he chooses to fight he will be criticised. He steps up and takes on the toughest fights out there time and again, Tito, Taylor, Tarver, Wright, Calzaghe, Dawson, Pascal, Kovalev and yet idiots still say he faked injuries to get out of fights or avoided fighters. :patsch

“We really thought we were going to go into a fight with Bernard Hopkins, but he was too greedy,” Stevenson’s promoter Yvon Michel told TVA Sports. Michel stated that Hopkins wanted nearly 75% of the money offered by Showtime.

Hopkins will make much more money fighting Kovalev than he would have Stevenson. Kovalev does not care about the money, he just wants to fight Hopkins for the titles. When Kovalev wins, he will then make huge money, but Stevenson will still run from Kovalev, so will Ward...............

To say so is ignoring all the evidence.

Hopkins only turned to Kovalev after Stevenson wouldn't sign.

I'm not surprised that you will get all burt hurt over my thread. Sorry I don't have my mouth wrapped around Kovalev's ***** like your ****** ass batty boy. About two months ago you and your fellow queers claimed that Hop was docking Kovalev which I thought was bull****. What part of styles make fights do you not understand you thick count. Kovalevs fights just like Hopkins prefers his opponents. He does fight in straight line. He's less fast than Hopkins. He does have heavier hand which really won't mean **** because they not gonna land. You quot Daniel Boone, but Don George thinks Adonise is better fighter and puncher.

That's not true because if Hopkins gets past Kovalev, he'll sign to fight Stevenson and beat him too.

Hopkins is one of the only fighters fighting for legacy.

He chose the Kovalev fight because he was being forced to give up his title by Haymon, and then he would be offered less money because he didn't have a strap.

He signed to fight Kovalev mainly to outmanuever Haymon. There is an article where he talks about it that you haven't read.

Why don't you read it before making assumptions.

Hopkins is old school. Who has he ducked? This was the same guy who talked about fighting Haye, yet he's afraid of Stevenson?

I never claimed Hop was ducking Stevenson. I said he saw Kovalev as the easier fight. If he beats Kovalev I believe he will Stevenson down the road.

I think the point is that he tried to face Stevenson first. When that wasn't happening, he moved on to Kovalev.

    We'll find out in November.

If he get's KO'd then it don't look so easy.

IMO he has a better chance against Stevenson.

If they're both winnable then who he fights first is irrelevant. You think a loss for Hopkins derails him? You just argued against your own point.

I did not argue against my own point. At first Hopkins found it easier to negotiate with Steven due to both fighting on the same network and Al Haymon's relationship with Golden boy. Hop also kept his option open for a possible Kovalev fight. When Kovalevs team showed interest, Hop jumped on the deal. From the news that I'm hearing, Hop is fighting for less Payday against Kovalev than he would have against Stevenson. If all deals equal why would Hop fight for less, if is not the fact that he sees one fight as being stylistically easier than the other.

Guess it depends on who you believe. Stevenson's people say Hopkins 'got greedy' and priced himself out, something he (Hopkins) too has a history of doing (RJJ rematch).

Not really seeing the weaknesses in Kovalev's game compared to STevenson. Kovalev has been dominating everyone he fights,

Stevenson on the other hand just went 12 hard rounds with a guy that Kovalev would probably spark out early.

That's not really a negative thing to say about Hopkins either, it just shows you that HOpkins likes to take the best challenges.
