Why did America throw Alvardo and Stevens into the ring with GGG and Provo? Its not because they thought they could win. Its because they wanted to showcase both eastern european fighters to an American aduience.
Same reason why HBO put Stevenson on the same card as Kovalev.

I think that you may be confusing the US boxing media with the US public. The US boxing media has always had a certain contempt for heavyweights. If you can get your hands on old Ring magazines etc. you will read articles about how it has ALWAYS sucked; when Lewis was champion, when Holyfield was champion, when Tyson was champion, when Bowe was champion, when Spinks was Champion, when Holmes was champion, when Ali was champion, the heavyweights sucked. Also, some US boxing writers have written about boxing for around fifty years and never once saw a talented Caucasian boxer. I've been following boxing since 1980, even before then really.

Boxing media in US has been lying about Klitschkos for many years now. I don't blame them for fighting in Europe again.

 

Dude I'm pretty sure most American fight fans don't care about the changing of the guard. We have dominated the sport for the last century, surely at some point it would be time for someone else to take over. Congrats....

 

They are only unappreciated in America. It's all about demographics,racism and a superiority complex.

The white Americans tuned out when the Black Canadian/Englishman Lewis took control of the division and the Black Americans tuned out when the Klitschko took over after Lewis.

If the Klitschkos were American (particularly Black Americans) they would be among the biggest sport stars in history in America. Unfortunately because of their nationality and race they are largely despised in America.

Their is also a perception that many of the eastern euro Klitschko fandom are racist against Blacks. This unfairly creates further antipathy with the American Blacks against the Klitschkos.

The last reason is that there is an assumption among Americans that they are superior to other countries in athletics,culture etc. If non Americans are dominating largely non American opponents, in their minds then it must be a weak era.

I think it's this too. Many many many times when talking to casual american people about boxing (which I tend to bring up a lot), they refuse to believe the heavyweight champion is a white european named "Klitschko". They think I'm lying or kidding. And most of these are white americans who are heavily conditioned by their media.

Conditioned from an early age to think white guy=computer programmer in bowtie and suspenders, black guy=really angry jock/boxer who rapes and hits things.

They are appreciated just fine in the rest of the world. I am from the middle east and I think the ad nauseam stereotypes get to me more than they do most americans, who are used to it and even think they're accurate.
