Hopkins backed out of fighting Calzaghe years ago. That is correct
The C Byrd one, is a mystery. Find me something to say it is untrue, because all I have seen is a link someone posted, showing an old amateur card where it showed Calzaghe beat Byrd. Cant see the card was fake.
The Olympics story. A fighter Calzaghe beat was selected over him.
The story about the ref, is one I have read before, where Calzaghe lost a fight to another amateur, whos father was the ref and judge, but Calzaghe beat the same fighter several times after. Havent heard about only one amm loss. Sure this isnt something you dreamt?
As for linear. Jones was made champ when there was another fighter who had greater claim. Calzaghe beat Hopkins when there was no real other claim

 

It is amazing what Hopkins has done.
How is Kovalev more dangerous than a fighter who won WBO WBA IBF WBC titles and won 22 world title fights? Or are you just referring to punch power and KOs?

I've seen big punchers come unstuck many a time and against lesser technicians than Bernard H. Not entirely sure Kovalev has the savvy to even get to Hopkins to land those power shots without being smothered shortly after and roughed-up by the very best in the division (if not entire game) on the inside.

A very interesting match-up though since power is the great leveler, Hopkins on points for me the most likely outcome.

Kovalev doesn't even need to land clean power shots,hitting Hopkins on the arms shoulders chest anywhere will be enough to wear him down

And Hopkins is going to have problems roughing him up kovalev is a lot physically stronger and will do his own roughing up

 

it's good kovalev is on diff weightclass, else theftjr would have all the excuses ready.
