yes I would. He would gain even more respect from me. No doubt. If you win I give you your respect, I gave him his respect for beating kessler, I give him respect for beating Nard. So if he wins of course. A win earns you respect

 

Jones chin is not an issue here. Last weekends Calzaghe couldn't break a potato chip. They both are shot, but I think Jones would win at this point.

 

Tito c'mon man he couldve Ko'd him at any point. And RJ was beating him easily. This is the 1st round. If RJ wouldve landed a shot like that on calzaghe in the 1st round and he got up with that much time. I dont think Calzaghe survives IMO

 

Fair do's:good It is the most likely fight to be made. Calzaghe wants to retire with his 0 intact and make some money and Jones is probably the best way to do that. Although truthfully I agree with you in a sense. I believe Jones is more of a threat to Calzaghe than Hopkins was.

I'd still rather he fought Dawson or Pavlik.

 

Calzaghe did not look shaky after that imo. He was up and ready to go in no time. But we'll see for ourselves in 6-7 months i'm sure.

 

It is too much to speculate about to be honest. Does JC come in against RJJ in the first round like he did against BHop? Does RJJ still pack enough power to ko someone w/1 punch? It seems unlikely that someone who's never been ko'd (JC) will be ko'd by someone who doesn't have a recent history of 1-rd ko's, doesn't it?

I was never a big RJJ fan, and was glad he got ko'd by Tarver (until Tarver started acting like he was the second coming--which made me glad he got embarrassed by BHop, whom I don't like much either), but do recognize that he was a phenomenal talent w/two very big wins over a prime BHop and JT, as well as his clear victory over the hw Ruiz. He just isn't that guy anymore, though, and JC has more left in the tank right now.

 

Sounds to me like even if Calazaghe wins Jones ppl here will make excuses,call him crap and say he will lose his next fight to whoever it is.

Roy has the tools to do the job but his fear to engage will not allow him to.

Are you forgetting how bad Glass Jaw Roy's chin is? Plus he could not even KO Glass Jaw Trinidad or those other 2 bums he fought.

 

I don't know Fab...I still don't understand why he didn't finish Tito. He looked as if he could've at almost any point but didn't put his foot to the pedal.

That type of reluctance will not work against Calslappy.

 

He had a torn right Bicep.

 

Roy woud be the Biggest opponent Calzaghe has faced physically, hes more a natural Light Heavy than Joe, he also has the punch power even now to hurt Joe.

The problem for Roy is that he is very injury prone, against Trinidad he had a torn Left Bicep, the injury seems to happen to Roy fairly regularly in his later years.

Also Roy used to be an outstanding fighter with his ring generalship, he used to move in and out circle around his opponent and stay away from the ropes.

He now seems to sag on the ropes to gain a breather and counter, I dont think Calzaghe hits with the same strength as a Tarver or a Johnson but he is busy enough to fatigue Jones.

I pick Joe by a close UD 115-113 in the UK, if the fight were in the US i think Jones has a 50-50 chance. Calzaghe will be 37 by November Jones 39.

I still think Calzaghe needs to prove himself at this weight, Hopkins wasn't a natural Light Heavy as seen by 173 weight.

I also think the Crowd would b 50-50 on a Jones Calzaghe fight in the US.

Jones is a very popular personaity, he is like Calzaghe said a class person in and out of the ring. I bring up the issue of the crowd because when Calzaghe flurried and didnt land vs B-Hop the crowd went crazy which would influence the judges.

Hopkins counters didnt get any response despite being more effective.

I can see Jones Jr's flashy text book combos gaining oooos and aaaas from the crowd, this will have an influence.

Jones also cracks to the body very well.

Will be an interesting fight.

Being a Brit I would like to see Jones in the UK, it would be an honour to see the greatest fighter of this generation and quite possibly the most athletically gifted athlete we have seen for some time. I say this because unlike Mayweather Jones doesnt trash talk to gain an advantage, he intimidates with his ability.

I read an extract from Joes book " Ordinary Joe" he stated the only fighter he was worried about facing was Roy Jones, I think that is some admission from a guy like Joe. Can you imagine any other top guy admitting that? Calzaghe has huge respect for Roy.
