On a straight up measuring machine at the same weight for each fighter, pavlik would register harder, but we all know thats not the be all and end all when throwing a punch, if you dont see it...it can knock you cold, and hopkins can throw a very sneaky hard shot!
Pavlik hits harder than BHop ever did. When people talk about Pavlik grinding people down they tend to forget that 5 of his last 6 opponents had never been stopped until they got Pavlikated. Zuniga, Mckart, Zertuche, Miranda, and Taylor are all tough sons-of-bitches. Pavlik ate Miranda's best shots like they were ****ing Skittles! Zuniga has not lost since Pavlik, and he now holds the IBO 168# title. Last I heard Taylor is working on a fight with Kessler. Miranda is now slated to rematch Abraham. Pavlik ruined Zertuche, and McKart went on to win the NABF title after Pavlik vacated it. The point is that history holds only a handful of middleweights that could match or exceed Kelly's firepower. Now here's something else to think about as long as we're comparing Hopkins and Pavlik. Bernard put Joe down in round 1, and then rocked him and cut him in round 2. What would Pavlik have done in round 3 under similar circumstances?
I just want Calzag to go twelve with Kelly unloading that straight right !seems Joe C is a sucker for the straight right down the pipe. Thats How Hopkins put him on his ass.... if the Ghost can land one like Hop your boy wont be getting up. **** wont happen as they realize they havent got the stones after creaking past the Hopster.
thats a toss up, pavlik can ok people with a sort of grid it out type of styel, were b-hop has shown one punch ok power.
:think thats a toss up, pavlik can ok people with a sort of grind it out type of style, where b-hop has shown one punch ko power.:bbb and yes i do :rasta
Pavlik hits harder and throws a lot more punches too. He's a lot more aggressive The thing that people are overlooking is that he's nowhere near the counterpuncher Hopkins was. They think that because Hopkins dropped Calzaghe with a perfectly timed counter punch that didn't even seriously hurt him that means that Pavlik will knock him out. That's not the way boxing works. Pavlik's punches are a lot easier to see than Hopkins'. Joe has eaten a lot, a lot harder shots than what Hopkins hit him with and stayed on his feet. The reason he went down is because he was mid-punch and didn't see the shott hat hit him
Hopkins in no way hits as hard as Pavlik. I mean it's obvious. Taylor found out the hard way and in the rematch did his damnest not to be caught on the end of Pavlik's punches. Taylor basically fought going backwards and fighting at long distance lunging in. Hopkins is plenty more diverse though. He knows how to control the distance and how to work inside the clinch. My big concern with Pavlik against Calzaghe is that he may not be able to handle Joe's lunging in and grabbing ****. I mean lets not forget Joe looked alot like Hopkins against Kessler. He'd probably fight the same way against Pavlik. Pavlik is also pretty intent on the jab and landing that right hand. But that is also the bane of Joe Calzaghe. I am a firm believer that at some point in a Pavlik-Calzaghe fight Joe will walk into a right hand all over again. And this time the right hand will be so crushing he will either be knocked out there, or knocked out soon after. Joe isn't an orthodox guy. He's pretty much learned on his own with his father. Composers really. And he'll have to figure out a way to avoid Pavlik's right hand ALL night as Pavlik will be intent on landing it. I can see Calzaghe fighting an ugly fight all over again to win a decision. But he isn't knocking Pavlik out.
Timing man, timing and punch angles have a tendency for one punch knockdowns more so than guys with straight up punch power. I bet Kelly throws harder but, Hopkins can time you and catch you from weird angles and catch you off guard.
