    Well, his WBA title run is already more consistently high-quality than was John's (though as of yet still only half the length, and he is too old to ever catch up) so he will probably avoid those sort of criticisms of quality that dogged John's resume - but Uchiyama to be frank is actually more of a homer than John, who took endless stick for it, ever was. :think

    Kaneko and Naito are ready to pick up the baton when Takashi #1 and Takashi #2 are ready to give it up. (though I don't think either of them, even with room to grow into their potential, will end up being quite as good as either Takashi)

    Sanpei too - I haven't seen the kid, but at only 19 he is stirring up some buzz domestically and may be one to keep an eye out for.

    Uchiyama, unfortunately, has largely been wasting time away. A shame too, as I'm not sure I would pick any 130 pounder from the last couple years to beat Uchiyama.

    Even now with him looking maybe a little more beatable last time we saw him, against Kaneko?

    I have to imagine that a struggle this NYE with someone at or below Kaneko's level would signal the end of Uchiyama as the premier h2h super feather or in the conversation.

    The window may have already closed on him engaging in some great battles with true challenges anywhere close to his admittedly late-blooming prime, sadly.

    In Fairness Kaneko has the look of a future world champion. There was tlak about it being Nakamura but Masao lost last time out to Masayuki Ito. Ito can't challenge for a world title in Japan (JBC domestic rule) so that one won't happen.

    Do you think a year of rust in his mid thirties would be enough for Uchiyama to possibly have slipped enough that Kaneko might beat him in a rematch should he get the call-up this December? :think

    Yes. I think Kaneko could but I don't see him getting the call if truth be told. Sounds like the unification bout is off the table too.

    Not sure who will be fighting either Takashi though both are expecting opponents to be named soon. Hopefully they will be notable opponents but it seems both, especially Miura, have been linked to every top fighter in the division in the last few months =/

    Yeah, why cant they just rematch? :-( Better than each separately facing subpar competition.

    I can't remember offhand - Kaneko was pretty much the hardest nights work Uchiyama since Miura right? Was he even more difficult?

    I'd say he was more difficult personally though Miura has certainly improved since then. There really is no reason why they can't rematch. It's not like the Ioka/Inoue situation (they fight on different networks) and they both seem to mention it in the Japanese media. Complete waste of a year for both of them though.

    Seems like a lot of Japanese guys have had a wasted 2014 when you think about it. Kono hasn't fought since beating Kaovichit, Miyazaki hasn't fought yet (returns on September 16th), Daiki and Koki Kameda have had their domestic wrangles, the Super Featherweight champions have written the year off.

    Mikey/Uchiyama definitely is the best match that could be made

    But tbh I want to see Vasquez/Uchiyama 2, I think Vasquez has done enough to warrant that rematch. I think this could be a closer fight this time around.

    Lots of fights to be made though, sfw is looking quite good nowadays. A lot better than LW, that's for damn sure.
