Depends on the practitioner, but Wing Chun's effectiveness wouldn't be there against a mobile boxer with decent hand speed and movement.

in a fight to the death in a ring with no weapons. I rather be a world class MMA fighter than a world class boxer.

Well folks, like most threads this one has gone bad pretty quickly.

The technical ability of most boxers is higher than most MMA fighters, same goes for any other exponent of a single discipline.

Most higher level boxers could train and become good MMA fighters no doubt, but why would they bother?

It is true that no boxers have made a mark on MMA but that is simply because there isn't enough money in it for it to be worthwhile unless the boxer is at a stage where boxing fans know he is over and he isn't a draw so can't make any money and commissions won't let them fight.

MMA fighters train hard and can fight. Like for like no boxer beats an MMA fighter at MMA and no MMA fighter beats a boxer in a boxing match.

I was asked to go and throw hands with an MMA gym to help them work on their boxing. The instructor is a Cage Warriors fighter which is a decent sized promotion over here. If we had been doing MMA I am sure I would have taken a bit of a kicking but as we were boxing I was able to play with him and all his students as the technical ability just can't be all that high when training boxing, kicking, grappling etc.

Done both.Heres my honest opinion-You have to have a lot more talent to be a success and actually make a living in boxing-that's just being truthful.
Vince Phillips,James Toney, and those who went to MMA/K1 were just trying to squeeze out a payday or 2 since they weren't in their primes as fighters anylonger so you cant really use them as examples.
Now MMA and someone who truly knows what they are doing-and its not a lot of people- can end fights in a lot of different ways thus giving them an advantage over someone who can only fight one way.
I can tell you first hand being kicked in the legs can be very painful esp to someone who isn't used to being puinished in the legs. But getting hit by someone who hits hard and knows how to throw punches correctly is equally painful.
Its really a 50/50 between MMA/Boxing on who could beat who.Stand up favors boxer but ground doesn't mean MMA fighter would win either-what if the boxer is 3x stronger and MMA fighter isn't strong enough to execute the ground moves?
Or what if boxer cant deal with the leg kicks in the stand up?

Conversely in an MMA fight all the boxers would get their asses kicked in the cage. Toney vs Couture was an example.

Seems like a pretty pointless thing for people to keep saying really. Yes most of the time an MMA fighter would beat a boxer in an MMA match. Most tennis players would beat footballers at a game of tennis, so what?

Stop making excuses for Sylvia. Like Toney was prime and in shape against Couture. I knew you would just skip right over that fact to form your baseless argument. You were completely proven wrong with facts. Man up and admit it or keep back peddling. :deal
Not even close. Mercer vs Sylvia is a example. :deal

Boxer only wins if the mma guy is washed up and is stupid enough to box with them. If the mma guy is aggressive with the takedown or goes for leg kicks than the boxer is ****ed.:deal

Ok I was wrong, they haven't won 100% of the time. You have your one golden example of a boxer beating an mma fighter. Just one. Enjoy it.

You would have to be stupid to believe a boxer with no wrestling or kickboxing training could ever succeed in mma. This example of Ray Mercer is also the same guy that got lit up, taken down and choked out by the bum Kimbo Slice.
