I think fights are more tiring than sparring. I'm guessing it's probably because of higher adrenaline/nervous energy levels that Emanuel Stewart used to talk about. On top of that you're probably putting forth about 5-10 percent more effort and power on your punches. Is it fair to say that about 5 quality sparring rounds equals 3 quality fight rounds.

I don't think there is a true recipe. I've seen sparring rounds that go harder than some fights. But I think its good to do 3 intense rounds sometimes and other times do maybe 5 a little bit lighter.

mathematically 3 sparring rounds are 9 minutes so the answer is the same.

but in terms of energy output, i like the above answer. to add to it, sparring rounds have 16 ozs gloves and headgear and its ****ing annoying throwing big ass pillows around. i find it to be a bit more tiring when you are doing a lot of moving around.

but in the fight, you have the smaller gloves and can naturally move around more freely which exerts more energy, and you get more tired in a real fight, but what happens is, with the smaller gloves, its easy to knuckle up and continue throwing punches, even if they are arm punches when you get tired. if you get tired in sparring with 16 ozs, it gets really hard to throw, especially with them big ass grant sparring gloves.

my opinion and one of my coaches is a fight is at least 3 times harder then training so. 9 rounds of sparring approximately in my unprofessional opinion

Twice as much. If you are training for a 3 round fight, you must at least spar 6 rounds regularly

When I was a amateur i would get in the ring and do 2 1/2 minutes with one guy and while I stay in the ring a new guy would jump in would take a minute break after the third guy and repeat this three times twice a week. When a bout was getting near I would up the time to 3 minutes and only a 30 second break after the third guy. Like someone has said there's no real way to tell what's enough as every individual different but as long as you got decent sparring you should be okay.

I would also say that not only is every individual different but every opponent is different. I remember sparring one pro when I was 18 and he was ripping body shots into me. I was pretty gassed after 2 sparring rounds.
