    Round 1

Ortega is placing the right jab, circling to his left and stalking Perez, not getting too close. Ortega is doubling up on the right jab and charging in to bop Perez on the mouth with a quickly arcing left hand. Perez just checks Ortega with the left jab while turning, cautious.

10-9 Ortega, uneventful feel-out round but did a little more.

DeMarco's power is slightly above average, he got lucky in the Molina fight.

    Round 2

Ortega is still using the recipe that worked in the 1st, doubling his right jab and coming down with the sneaky left hand after hiding it until the last moment stepping in. Perez backs away, forking out left jabs and slouching over to his right. Perez is backed up by a straight flurry as Ortega jumps in past a lazy jab. Perez is on the ropes, spun around onto the Tecate logo, and dropped with a body shot! Ortega muscles him into the ropes again, trying to work the body as Perez stuffs him until the bell.

    10-8 Ortega

    20-17 Ortega

    Round 3

Ortega is jabbing with the right and then curling into a ball with the right arm closing around his face and chest, letting Perez's left jab carom off his bicep and shoulder. Ortega is throwing lefts at the body coming in behind the right jab. Perez's gloves touch down, but up before the ref can get to him for a count! They just continue boxing! Ortega is forcing Perez into a corner, staying low, skewering his body with lefts.

    10-9 Ortega

    30-26 Ortega

    I always really liked Roman.

He wasn't a big underdog against Ponce... A bit less than 2 to 1.

Weird fall from grace for Ponce to have the bookies think that little of you, huh?

Just as an FYI for spoilers: Azteca America has been showing the undercard of the DeMarco-Tyner fight including Ortega-Nunez. I don't know if boxrec has the results, but you might want to avoid in case of spoilers.

    Round 4

Ortega is weaving in, right elbow pointing out like a ship's prow, digging lefts on the body. Perez backs up and jabs. Ortega is ducking in past the jab, throwing his right up at Perez's face to blind him and then winging the left in low. Perez is backing away, hands down, mouth open. Ortega triples up on the left, climbing from abdomen to face and scoring. Perez is weary. Light 1-2 by Perez backing up.

    10-9 Ortega

    40-35 Ortega

DeMarco has been wasting the end of his physical prime since the Broner loss. That was about 21 months ago, he has fought only twice since, and both were against opponents inferior to Tyner.

Not that I ever thought DeMarco was good enough to be facing top 10 after top 10 opponent and remain titlist for years or anything, but I'd hoped for perhaps a little more of a push after getting destroyed by Broner especially considering that his name has still routinely been brought up as a potential quality opponent for the top guys at 140.

Was DeMarco's strategy against Broner one of the dumbest of all time?

Miguel Roman was fighting a level or two above his weight class.
