Was Buddy Mcgirt really bad for Paulie?

Just rewatched the hatton fight and flicked over other ones, his style against hatton was different, he fought looking for single flashy shots in a very defensive way, sometimes they came off but he was on the defence for large spells. Mainly he seemed to not believe in himself like other fights and didnt clown around much or anything like that, even in fights which seemed tougher like cotto. I just thought the change was pretty intersting and i thought from watching that he was holding himself back, he always wanted to fight hatton again after he got rid of mcgirt do you think he have a chance going back to his old way? it reminded me a little but a way lessser extent than gatti against floyd when he gatti just seemed to have no self belive and just persiste with his new style

I thought paulie looked good and gatti but it just didnt really work and they didnt seem to believe in it either, it was weird the way they both didnt go back to what they did before when they got so far behind

Paulie has always had problems with real aggressive fighters ,he's good at boxing fighters with low work rate.

    Cotto, Hatton ,Shawn,Diaz

yeah i understand that but he won a fair few rounds agaianst cotto and had a terrible start , he fought hard too and really went for it, against hatton he brushed up on some flaws but he had like zero aggresion himself and fought without much heart, mcgirt defiantlet added some stuff but took some stuff away. there very different performances

It's more the style matchup rather than trainer problems for Paulie. I don't think particularly highly of Buddy as a trainer, to me he seems to have no adaptive ability whatsoever. That being said, Paulie struggles, as fighter86 indicated, against aggressive fighters that can handle his speed. Paulie defensively is all about his speed and his jab, he doesn't have good fundamental defense, so when faced against opponents that can deal with his speed edge and are willing to walk through his light punches, he has serious problems. The only "boxer" he has lost against was Amir Khan, who was both faster and had a reach advantage on Paulie.

"Pop the jab, drink some water baby" is generally not enough to make a winner.

At least he makes sure his fighters are hydrated in between rounds.

Tarver and Thunder(R.I.P.) would beg to differ.

Doesn't matter, because he always "pulls the plug" anyway when drinking the water doesn't produce results.

It's all in the water to be honest. When the sodium is too high, it's time to pull the plug baby!

He devised a disastrous strategy for Macklin v GGG too. Doesn't seem to be a great trainer, not a success at all it seems. Was a great champ though.

What successes has he had as a trainer?
