He probably will. I'm still shocked by his stupid gameplan against Maidana in their first fight.

I still think he's the best fighter in the world by far, and his future bouts will probably look similar to his wins over Alvarez and Guerrero rather than his fight with Maidana.

Than again, it's boxing so anything can happen, especially to a guy in his late 30's. It all depends on who his final few fights are against. I'd like to see him fight Pacman and take on Cotto for his lineal championship. No one else campaigning at those weight classes deserve a shot against Mayweather, well maybe Danny Garcia at 140 for his lineal title but I doubt FLoyd would drop weight this late in his career.

 

While it was definitely proven to be difficult(not stupid), I'd rather give Maidana credit for forcing Mayweather in that position rather than fully blaming Mayweather's reaction to it.

I'm sorry but unless Mayweather's legs seriously declined from the Alvarez fight going into the Maidana fight, than IMO FLoyd had a stupid gameplan for the first 6 rounds.

He decided to play possum against a high volume puncher for the first 6 rounds. Not saying Maidana was THAT effective, but just off punching #'s alone, he was making it a close fight just on his sheer volume.

There's no way I'll believe that he was able to pin FLoyd on the ropes like that for such long periods of time. I have no doubt FLoyd could've used his lateral movement and sidestepped his way off the ropes anytime he wanted to.

Around the 7th-9th rounds were how I expected their entire fight to go- FLoyd stayed off the ropes and kept Maidana in the center of the ring and confused Maidana with his different type of jabs and lead shots.

I'll be even more shocked if FLoyd doesn't utilize his legs in their rematch and keep the fight in the center of the ring. Smart money makes me think that's what'll happen.

I don't want to discredit Marcos in any way but the stars were aligned for him that night with a ref allowing him to get away with anything he wanted and the willingness of FLoyd to stay in the pocket while also being pressed on the ropes for long periods of time. I seriously doubt Maidana will have those same type of variables go his way in the rematch. I expect a 10-2 UD or a late stoppage.
