Meh Roadwork in the morning use to help when I was younger. Now it wears me out a bit more.

You should always spar when you are fresh. You are training your mind and your mental state as well as your body, so you want to do that when you are sharp and focused. You can do the repititive, mindless stuff afterwards.

I would also like to add it's not about how many rounds you do it's all about how much you get out of sparring. No point doing 6.8.10 rounds if you are finding it easy. It's all about ironing out the mistakes and making sure footwork stance guard and blocking punches are on point as well as counters in my opinion.

The most important thing you have to remember is 3 rounds in the gym is a piece of cake whereas in a real bout you will be dealing with adrenaline, nerves & all sorts of emotions depending on the occasion and how you feel on the day.

If you can maintain & control all these you should be fine and able to box as you would normally but I would actually be working on stamina as yes sparring is good and beneficial but I would be working on improving my stamina more then my sparring no real answer everyone is different.

I agree. Though 5-7 rounds for me regardless still gets tiring one way or the other.

I did 7 rounds this past weekend. The first 4 rounds were intense enough cause the guy I trained with was a pressure fighter.

The last 3 rounds was with another guy. This guy went at me like he was in his past amatuer bouts lol. He tried to knock my head off!!! :scaredas:

Later I found out this was his way of showing "green" guys a taste of what it would be like to become an actual fighter.

At the end I felt like I ran a couple city blocks while being pursued by an angry rottweiler lol. That and I felt like I was gonna throw up the food I ate earlier in the morning :tired I got hurt by some nasty boddy punches along the way.

It was very different from the usual light-medium contact sparring I do at the club though. So I learned something new at least.

Its different when someone is fighting you vs someone who is sparring you. A LOT.

I think its good to occasionally have intense sparring where a better boxer teaches you how to continue fighting under more realistic conditions. Not all the time though. Just occasionally to remind you that regular light-medium contact sparring is not the same as an actual "fight".

i have fought and i think
it all has to do with nerves-anxiety and adrenaline.
also it needs to be mentioned the pressure of being watched by many people

if your calm in the fight
then those 3 rounds will feel like 3 really hard rounds of sparring

    BUT
if your not and all those other feelings come into play

every minute in the fight will seem like 3 rounds of hard sparring lol
